Yes, Chinas high-speed trains have toilets. Both Western-style and squat toilets are provided. Occupancy is indicated by lights above the restroom doors: green for available, red for occupied.

You know, I’ve always wondered about that – do China’s bullet trains have toilets? It sounds like a silly question, I guess, but when you’re whizzing along at hundreds of miles an hour, where do you go?! Well, good news, folks! They absolutely do have toilets. Phew! I’ve read they have both Western-style (the kind most of us are used to) and squat toilets, which is interesting. Like, imagine trying that at high speed! I’m not sure I’d be coordinated enough, haha!

They even have little lights above the doors – green for vacant, red for occupied. Makes sense, right? You don’t want to be awkwardly jiggling the handle only to find someone’s in there. My friend Sarah took one of those trains a few years ago – the Beijing to Shanghai route, I think it was – and she said the bathrooms were actually pretty clean, which is always a plus. I remember being on a train in, I think it was Italy? ages ago, and…well, let’s just say the bathroom situation wasn’t ideal. So, knowing China’s high-speed rail has decent facilities is definitely reassuring if I ever get the chance to ride one myself.
