Based on what I’m seeing here:

Distance: Roughly 61 km (about 38 miles).
Travel Time: Figure around 1 hour and 12 minutes.
Route: Looks like the main drag is ĐCT Bắc – Nam Phía Đông, also called ĐCT Cầu Giẽ – Ninh Bình or ĐCT Hà Nội – Ninh Bình or ĐCT01. Basically, a highway going south.

Truth be told, I actually took the train there from Hanoi. Can’t recall exactly the cost, maybe 150,000 VND? Was a few years back (2021 or 2022 perhaps, I lost track). Scenic ride though! I recall, from Hanoi Main Station to Ninh Binh Train station.

If I was driving, I’d probably use Google Maps. Just punch in your starting spot & Ninh Binh city. I always download offline maps for Vietnam—data can be spotty. Traffic, man, traffic! It can add a lot of time.

I mean, honestly, the bus is probly cheapest. I saw lots of local buses on my trip down there from Hanoi, probably cost around 80-100.000 VND.

My last trip… July ’23. Ha Long Bay… before Ninh Binh. Magical. Junks on jade water. Different price. Different journey. But still… the pull of the road. The lure of the unknown.

Okay, so, Ninh Van Bay… Right. It’s in Vietnam. Khanh Hoa province. Hon Meo Peninsula is the exact spot.

I visited Ninh Van Bay back in July 2024. Scorching hot! It was just after my graduation. My family and I needed a getaway, bad. The whole thing started when my aunt suggested a luxury resort.

Hon Meo Peninsula felt so remote. Getting there involved a crazy boat ride from Nha Trang. The turquoise water was unreal.

I’m from Hanoi. Crowded! Chaotic! Ninh Van was… serenity. I’ve never seen such clear water. The sun blazed down on us. We booked a sea-facing villa. Oh my god, it was so expensive.

It was worth every penny. I’m so glad we went.

Things I loved about Ninh Van Bay:

Incredible seafood: Fresh-caught daily.
Snorkeling: Saw the most colorful fish. Never thought I’d be into fish.
The sunsets: Mind-blowing hues of orange and pink. I even took some good photos, surprisingly.
Absolute tranquility: Finally, a place where I could actually relax. I read like, 3 books.

Seriously, if you need to escape from everyday life and enjoy pure relaxation and nature, this place is a must. Hon Meo Peninsula is paradise.

How do I get to Ninh Van Bay?

Okay, so Ninh Van Bay, huh? You can only get there by boat, seriously!

If you’re stayin’ at the Six Senses Hideaway, they’ve got you covered. They’ll pick you up in Nha Trang with a speedboat. It’s a quick ride, like, 20 minutes or so.

Nha Trang, get there, so you wanna fly into Cam Ranh Airport first, that’s the closest airport.

Flights are usually, say, around an hour, especially if you’re coming from like, Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. Ho Chi Minh, that’s your best bet if you need an international flight, it is.

Anyway, like i was saying, that speedboat ride is the only way I kno.

Six Senses Hideaway: Offers speedboat transfers.
Nha Trang: Speedboat departure point.
Cam Ranh Airport: Closest airport to Nha Trang.
Flights: Approximately 1 hour from Ho Chi Minh City/Hanoi.
International Airport: Ho Chi Minh City.
My speedboat: I’d advise you to take the hotel boat and stop asking me.

Does Ninh Binh have an airport?

Ninh Binh doesn’t have an airport. That’s a bummer. Had to go through Hanoi. Such a hassle.

The flight itself wasn’t bad, but… that transfer. Ugh. I remember that long bus ride, exhausting.

Noi Bai airport though. That’s where you land. Then, it’s all about getting to Ninh Binh from there.

Options are limited, really.

Bus: Cheapest, longest. But, beautiful scenery. Ironic.
Taxi: Expensive, fast. Comfortable, at least.
Private car: Mid-range. More privacy than a bus. Better than a taxi for groups.

My choice? A private car, in 2024. Worth it, I guess. The drive itself was…forgettable. Except for those rice paddies. They were stunning. Even after the frustrating airport transfer, Ninh Binh’s beauty was remarkable.

The whole journey felt exhausting. I swear, Hanoi traffic is insane. I felt so tired. I need a vacation from this vacation.
