How do you say I cannot attend the event?
Regretfully, I must decline your kind invitation. Prior commitments prevent my attendance. Thank you so much for thinking of me. I'm truly honored.
Cant Attend Event? How to Say It Politely
Ugh, declining invites is tricky. I always overthink it.
I went to a friend’s birthday dinner last July (2nd, at The Italian Place downtown, it was, like, $30 a plate, pricey!). I had already committed to a family thing. Explaining that felt awkward.
So, short and sweet works. “So sorry, can’t make it, prior engagement.” Done.
Sometimes I add “thanks for the invite!” Feels more… human? It’s a fine line.
Once I tried “honored, but can’t attend”. Sounded stiff. Like a robot. My friend, Sarah, teased me for weeks. Now I keep it simple. Less is more, right?
Short and Sweet: “So sorry, can’t make it, prior engagement.” Add “Thanks for the invite!” for warmth.
