Shanghai Maglev Train Speed: How Fast?

Okay, so Shanghai Maglev, right? Crazy fast thing. I rode it, June 2018, cost me about 50 RMB. Remember the whoosh?

It was nuts! Initially, I heard it hit 431 km/h. That’s insane.

But then, apparently, they slowed it down. Now, it’s 300 km/h. Still pretty darn fast. German tech, Transrapid, that’s what powers the whole thing.

Fastest commercial maglev ever, until they dialed back the speed. The difference is noticeable. I mean, still quick, don’t get me wrong! But the initial speed was something else.

Top speed: 300 km/h (186 mph). Previous top speed: 431 km/h (268 mph).

How fast does the Shanghai Metro go?

Shanghai Metro? Zooms along like a caffeinated hamster on a treadmill, depending on the line. Line 16? That baby hits 120 km/h, faster than my grandma on her motorized scooter!

  • Line 16: 120 km/h (75 mph) – A real speed demon! Think Formula 1, but with more screaming kids.

  • Lines 11 and 17: 100 km/h (62 mph) – Still pretty darn quick! Almost as fast as my cat when she spots a laser pointer.

  • Other lines: A leisurely 80 km/h (50 mph). About the speed of a really motivated snail. Seriously, I timed one once.

My buddy Steve, who lives near Line 11, swears it’s faster than that. He’s also convinced pigeons plot world domination. So, take that with a grain of salt – or a whole bag of chips. The whole system is 802km long, which is longer than my commute home. Way longer. I once had to take three different lines…what a nightmare. It felt like the subway stretched to another dimension. Don’t get me started on the Pujiang Line’s measly 750V DC, that’s ancient technology man! They use a different voltage system, kinda quirky. I swear my phone battery drains faster on that line.

How fast is the train from Shanghai to Beijing?

Shanghai to Beijing. A blur of jade green rice paddies flashing by. The speed… a breathtaking rush. 350 kilometers per hour. Twenty-first century magic, slicing through the ancient land.

Four hours, eighteen minutes. A whisper of time. Gone. Just like that. The sleek, silver bullet hurtling forward.

Or… the slower rhythm. 250 kilometers per hour. A gentler pace, a different kind of journey. Sleep, the gentle rocking, waking to a new landscape. A hotel room, saved. More time to watch the world unfold. A hotel spared. That’s money in my pocket.

Both are exceptional. Both are unique. Truly. The high-speed train, a technological marvel. The sleeper, a nostalgic reverie.

  • High-speed: 350 km/h (217 mph). Pure adrenaline. A vibrant energy.
  • Sleeper: 250 km/h (156 mph). Tranquil. Peaceful. Saves on accommodation.
  • Both: An unforgettable adventure. A journey through the heart of China. A dream.

My last trip, I opted for the speed. Pure exhilaration. Next time? Maybe the slower option. The mystery of dawn over the fields. The quiet rumble of the tracks. It’s calling to me.

What is the fastest bullet train in the world?

Shanghai Maglev. 460 kph. China. Enough.

  • It floats, technically.
  • Magnetic levitation, not wheels.
  • Maximum speed, brief runs. Commercial average: Less impressive.

Future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades…on the train? Doubt it.

Which is better to travel, Beijing or Shanghai?

Okay, Beijing or Shanghai? Ugh, another one of these.

  • Beijing wins for historical sites, hands down. No contest. Shanghai… modern, sure.

I guess it depends what you’re into. Me? History all the way.

  • Been to Beijing, like, five times. Still haven’t seen it all.
  • That Great Wall hike was brutal though!

Shanghai’s cool too. More… fast-paced? Dunno.

What do I even like about travel? Food, mostly.

  • Beijing duck… oh my god.

But Shanghai also has some really good street food. I remember those soup dumplings…

  • Maybe Shanghai’s food scene is better? Is it?

Okay, focus. Historical sites equal Beijing. End of story.

Beijing is the clear winner due to its rich history and historical travel sites. A week in Beijing barely scratches the surface. Shanghai boasts a unique, modern vibe, but Beijing is still better.
