How long do residency permits last?

Residency permits...how long do they last, anyway? It's such a loaded question, isn't it? I mean, just thinking about it gives me a weird mix of relief and anxiety. Like, I know most Green Cards are valid for ten whole years – which, let's be honest, feels like an eternity when you're in the thick of things. Ten years! So much can happen. But then there are those two-year conditional ones… those are the ones that keep me up at night. "Conditional permanent resident status" – it just sounds so… precarious, you know? Two years would absolutely fly by.
