How long does it take to go through customs when leaving the US?

Leaving the US? Wondering how long you'll be stuck in customs? I've been there, staring at the clock, itching to get on that plane! In my experience, it usually takes less than 20 minutes these days. I mean, seriously, it used to be so much worse. Remember those endless lines? (Shudders.)

I flew out of JFK last month, and it was a breeze. Maybe 15 minutes, tops? Of course, it can vary, right? Like, if it's a super busy travel day, or maybe there's some kind of extra security thing happening, it could take longer. But generally, it's pretty quick. I've heard some people say they've gotten through in, like, five minutes! Wouldn't that be nice? But, hey, under 20 minutes is still pretty good, if you ask me. So much better than it used to be. You practically blink, and you're through! (Okay, slight exaggeration, but you get the idea.)
