I rode it in July 2023. Chugging from Anchorage to Seward. It was mind-blowing.

I remember the crisp air hitting my face when I stupidly opened the window too far. So cold!

It snaked along the Turnagain Arm. Whales breached. Legit whales!

Mountains were insane. Glaciers seemed close enough to touch.

The sheer scale was something else. Unreal.

It was a full-day trip. The train itself wasn’t fancy.

• The scenery was truly epic.
• Food was okay, nothing amazing. Sandwiches.
• But the views? Worth every penny. No comparison.

My phone battery died, of course. Perfect timing. I actually looked out the window!

I didn't expect the wildlife. Seriously didn't.

It's not cheap. Think it was over $200 for a one-way ticket. I'd pay double.

I'd skip The Grand Canyon. My mom took that one. Super crowded, she said.

Afternoon, or, well, later? It's all about the left side. Yeah, the left side is way better then. Okay?

Why? Okay listen up because this is complicated but here is why.

• Morning (NYC to DC):
  • East Side Views: You get that nice morning light, and you're looking at the eastern shoreline of the Hudson and then it becomes the Delaware River. Better views, IMO. I saw a lot of boats here once. It was rad.
  • Sun: Avoids glare.
• Afternoon/Evening (NYC to DC):
  • West Side Views: You catch the sunset over the land and trees, instead of just like, fields. Also, the light hits the trees on the western bank in a cool way.
  • Sun: The sun goes down and goes down. This is essential.

Plus, you know I am always traveling this route because I love the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. You should visit it.
