Laos Railway Length: How long is the Laos-China Railway?

Okay, so Laos's railway… It's a bit of a mind-bender, honestly. I was there in Luang Prabang last April, and saw all the fuss about the new line.

The main stretch, Boten to Vientiane, clocks in at 422 kilometers. That's what everyone's saying, anyway. Standard gauge, the fancy kind.

Opened December 2021, I think. That trip cost me a fortune, by the way - around $800 for flights and hotels alone!

Pretty impressive, right? I saw some construction still ongoing near Vang Vieng, though, so maybe there are more bits coming soon. Who knows?

How long is the Laos high speed rail?

414km. Boten-Vientiane. Operational since December 2021.

Five daily trains each way. Four high-speed (CXX). One ordinary (KXX).

Key features:

  • Length: 414 kilometers.
  • Route: Boten to Vientiane.
  • Launch: December 2021.
  • Train types: High-speed (CXX), Ordinary (KXX). Four high-speed, one ordinary. Each direction. Daily.

My thoughts: A significant infrastructure project. Speedy travel, finally. Laos's modernization. The CXX trains are fast. Expect delays. Vientiane's expansion. My uncle's in construction. He says it's a game changer. The KXX is, well, slow. Crowded. But affordable. Different experiences.

How long is the train from Vientiane to Luang Prabang?

The Vientiane to Luang Prabang train… a whisper of steam, a fleeting dream. Two hours, swallowed by the Laotian landscape. Time stretches, compresses, a rubber band pulled taut.

$28. Second class. That's the price, a pittance for such a journey. Sunlight, dust motes dancing. The rhythmic clatter, a lullaby.

First class, a luxury, thirty-five dollars. Business class, extravagant at sixty-one. Each seat, a window to eternity.

The train itself… a steel serpent, gliding through emerald valleys. The scent of rice paddies, heavy and sweet. My heart aches, a familiar ache. Beautiful.

  • Journey time: Two hours. Precisely.
  • Ticket prices:
    • Second class: $28
    • First class: $35
    • Business class: $61

This slow unfolding… this journey… pure magic. It’s a memory etching itself onto my soul. The colors, vivid. The sounds… a perfect symphony. I'll always remember this. This feeling.

How fast is the high speed train in Laos?

Okay, so like, the train in Laos? Um, it's "high-speed," but not that high-speed, y'know?

I think it's, like, maxes out at 160 km/h. Which, is, um, something, right? Its def not the bullet train in Japan, that's for sure.

The trains are called CR200J trainsets. The deets about it are:

  • Train Type: CR200J (it's a China Railway thing).
  • Top Speed: 160 km/h (not that fast, TBH).
  • Service Designation: C8x (daily, all stops, so plan accordingly, ya know).

And, um, yeah. That's basically it. Hope that made cents, lol.
