Minimum Portugal Trip Length: How Many Days?

Okay, so Portugal trip length, huh? My thoughts?

Three days? Barely scratches the surface. Unless you're just hitting one city, like zooming through Lisbon's sights – maybe a quick Pastel de Nata stop, a tram ride, that’s about it.

Four to six days? Now we're talking. I did a five-day Algarve trip last August; beautiful beaches, but renting a car cost a fortune (around €300). Still, Tavira's charm, totally worth it.

Seven days or more? Perfect for exploring different regions. I'd love to revisit, maybe do a north-to-south road trip next time. Lisbon, then Porto, perhaps stopping in Óbidos for a charming medieval town experience.

Short trips, city breaks, beaches – fine for a taste, but a week minimum really allows you to feel Portugal.

Is 3 days enough in Portugal?

Three days? Barely scratches the surface.

Lisbon: Rush through Alfama, maybe catch a glimpse of Belém. Forget Sintra.

Porto: Impossible. One day max, if you hustle.

Algarve: Forget it.

Priorities:

  • Lisbon's historic center.
  • Pastel de Nata acquisition. Mandatory.
  • Port wine tasting (if Porto's even an option).

Reality Check: Three days is insufficient. 2024 travel demands more. Plan longer. My trip last year proved this, even with efficient travel plans. My friend wasted two days on the Algarve and regretted it.

Is 2 days in Portugal enough?

Two days in Portugal? Barely a scratch. Lisbon, even. Felt rushed.

The food was amazing, though. Seriously. The seafood, especially. I ate so much pastéis de nata. Too much. Regret it now, slightly.

Didn't get to see everything. Not even close. São Jorge Castle, breathtaking at sunset. Worth it. Absolutely.

  • Missed the Jerónimos Monastery, though. Gutted.
  • The Alfama district, though, I wandered aimlessly. Lovely.
  • Tram 28 – a chaotic nightmare. But a memorable one.

My hotel, near Praça do Comércio, perfect location. Expensive, though. Should have booked earlier. Next time, I’ll stay longer. Definitely. A week, at least. Need to explore more than just Lisbon. Porto calls. Someday. Maybe next year. 2024.
