How many miles do you average a year?
Americans drive an average of 14,263 miles per year, according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
Okay, so you wanna know how many miles I rack up in a year, huh? Well, hold on a sec, because I always feel like I’m driving everywhere.
The official answer, though? According to the Federal Highway Administration – those guys who probably spend all day counting cars, bless their hearts – the average American clocks in around 14,263 miles a year.
Wow, that sounds like a lot when you put it that way! You know, I remember one year, I swear I drove at least double that! We were renovating our house, and it felt like I was constantly running to Home Depot, then back to the lumber yard, then another trip for paint chips! And let’s not even talk about the countless trips carting the kids to soccer practice and, oh god, those dance recitals… shudders
So, am I average? I honestly have no idea. I guess it really depends on the year, doesn’t it? Some years it’s mostly just around town, and others, boom, road trip season hits, and the odometer just starts spinning! But hey, at least I’m seeing the world, right? Even if it’s just the inside of my minivan most of the time.
