Vietnam Meal Cost?
Pho on the street corner? Last July, Hanoi, 50,000 VND. Delicious.
Fancier place near Ben Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City, last August? Bun cha, 180,000 VND. Touristy, but good.
Street food: 20,000–70,000 VND.
Mid-range restaurants: 100,000–250,000 VND.
My friend got a banh mi for 25,000 VND in Hoi An last November. I think. Maybe it was Da Nang. Anyway, cheap eats are everywhere.
Is Da Nang expensive for tourists?
Expensive? Da Nang? Honey, compared to my avocado toast addiction, it’s practically free. Okay, maybe not free-free, but your wallet won’t weep.
Think of it as “budget-chic.” You can live like a king (or queen, obvi) without needing a royal treasury. Unless, you’re intent on buying all the silk lanterns, then, maybe a small loan?
Accommodation is a steal. Forget your Parisian pigeon-hole. Hotels here give you space; even the views are generous. Think spacious suites, not cramped closets!
Food? Oh, the food. Forget caviar; dive into mi quang. It’s a noodle explosion of deliciousness that costs less than my morning latte. Seriously, less.
- Transportation: Grab a Grab. Cheap, cheerful, and safer than my attempts at parallel parking. Buses? Exist, apparently.
- Activities: Beach bumming is free. Sunsets? Priceless. Dragon Bridge fire show? Also free. (Just don’t stand too close!)
My sister, bless her heart, once tried haggling for a bowl of pho. Don’t. Just don’t. It’s already cheap. You’ll insult someone and probably yourself.
Plus, free entertainment: Watching tourists try to navigate the roundabouts. Pure gold. (I am kidding! Mostly.)
You might spend more on sunscreen than actual experiences. Reflecting, sunscreen is critical. Skin cancer is not budget-friendly.
So, expensive? Nah. Just bring your appetite and a sense of adventure. And maybe a Vietnamese phrasebook. “Hello” goes a long way, trust me. I learned that.
Which is better, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh?
Night… again. Thinking about Vietnam. Da Nang. Quiet. Beaches… stretching out. Remember the sand, white. Almost blinding. Peace there. Different kind of peace than… Ho Chi Minh.
Crazy city. Motorbikes everywhere. Noise. So much noise. Exhaust fumes clinging to you. But… the energy. The food stalls, late at night. The smells, strong… unforgettable. Different kind of memory.
Which is better? No answer. Just… different. Like comparing… apples and fire. Both good. Different kinds of good. Da Nang for… stillness. Ho Chi Minh for… life, raw.
-
Da Nang: Beaches, quiet, Marble Mountains, My Khe beach, clean air, fewer people. Calm. Remember the feeling… almost spiritual. Empty… in a good way. Sunrise over the water. Just… breathing.
-
Ho Chi Minh: War Remnants Museum, heavy… but important. Ben Thanh Market, chaos. Cu Chi Tunnels, claustrophobic. The heat. The streets. The people pushing past. Alive. So alive. Makes you feel… small. And… alive too. Bui Vien Walking Street. Loud music. Never sleeps. Miss it sometimes. That energy.
Went in 2023. Both places… changed me. Different ways. No better. Just… different pieces of… Vietnam.
