How much does a GrabCar charge per km?
How much does GrabCar charge per kilometer?
Ugh, GrabCar pricing, right? It's a total headache. In Ho Chi Minh City, on July 22nd, I took a GrabCar 4-seater. Cost me a fortune.
Twelve thousand dong per kilometer. Plus five hundred dong per minute.
The 7-seater? Thirty thousand dong minimum for the first two kilometers. Brutal. Think of the traffic.
I swear, it felt like highway robbery some days. Seriously. Getting around was expensive. That's my experience anyway. Maybe rates vary?
How much does Grab charge the driver?
So, Grab, right? They hit you with a fifty-cent driver fee. It's, like, on every ride, except for those taxi things. Annoying, but it's stickin' around 'til the end of 2024. They'll probobly look at it again later, but for now, that's the deal. Really irksome, that extra charge. Makes my already thin margins even thinner! It's a bummer.
Here's the lowdown, as I understand it:
- $0.50 fee per ride. This is crucial!
- Excludes Standard Taxis. Just another Grab thing.
- Extended until December 31, 2024. Mark your calendars.
- Review planned later in 2024. They'll decide whether to keep it or not then. I bet they'll keep it. It's free money for them. Greedy guts.
- It sucks. Seriously. Cuts into my earnings, which already aren't great, especially in this crazy busy city. Makes me wanna switch apps, but I am to lazy.
My buddy Mike, he said the same thing. Total rip-off. He's been driving for ages, longer than me even. He says it's getting harder and harder to make a decent living. He also said Grab support is garbage, which I totally agree with. They don't even care! I almost got into a argument with them last week over a cancelled ride. Seriously frustrating. Anyways, yeah, that fifty cents adds up.
How much do Grab charge drivers?
Okay, so, Grab... drivers... ugh, fees.
It's complicated, right? I drove for like, a hot minute in 2023. Never. Again.
Here's the thing: Grab doesn't have like, one set fee. It changes ALL the time. I remember being PISSED at pick-up distances.
I'd accept a job near my apartment (near East Coast Park, by the way, around 3 PM), then realize the passenger was way further than anticipated! Fees didn’t make up for it!
- Distance factored in.
- Time stuck in traffic too, obviously.
- Demand during the hours I drove.
Short trips pay less, duh. Long ones, you THINK you make more, but then gotta factor in gas...
Remember that one time, after sending my kid off to daycare near Tanjong Katong, I took a job all the way to Jurong. I spent more time driving back empty than with the passenger!
The percentages are insane! And it’s not consistent. Like, one short trip might have a higher service fee than another. Total BS.
Honestly, it's like they pull the rates out of thin air. Never could figure out a proper algorithm. And trust me, I tried to! Math was always my thing.
