How much is 20kg in a suitcase?

Ugh, suitcases! Twenty kilos… how much is that, really? Like, I remember once trying to cram all my winter gear – think thick sweaters, boots that weigh a ton each, and enough scarves to rival a small yarn shop – into a suitcase that was supposed to be big enough. It was a disaster. Absolutely bulging, I swear I almost needed a forklift.

A 20kg limit, from what I’ve gathered, is usually fine for a medium-sized case. I’m talking those ones you see everywhere, you know? Not a tiny carry-on, but not a ridiculously huge one either. Something around 60x36x26 centimeters or maybe 65x41x26 centimeters – height, width, depth – would probably do the trick. Those are just rough guidelines though, right? Because honestly, the way suitcases are made, even from the same brand, can make a difference. My sister’s suitcase – same supposed size as mine – always seems to hold so much more. It’s infuriating! Maybe she’s just better at packing. (Or maybe she has one of those magical expandable suitcases).

So, 20kg… it’s a decent amount, enough for a week’s holiday, I’d say, unless you’re planning on bringing back a small herd of alpacas or something. I once went on a backpacking trip with just a 15kg limit – man, did that feel restrictive! Every item was carefully considered, I even weighed my toothpaste! Anyway, point is: 20kg in a medium-sized suitcase is doable, but don’t go crazy. Leave room for souvenirs, you know? Unless you prefer the “I’m-going-to-have-to-buy-a-new-suitcase-on-the-way-home” experience. I’ve been there. Not fun.
