Octopus cards are a convenient and popular way to pay for transportation and other services in Hong Kong. The cards are reloadable and can be used on public transportation, at convenience stores, and at many other businesses.
Refundable Deposit
All Octopus cards require a HK$50 refundable deposit. This deposit is returned to you when you return the card to an authorized service center.
Pre-loaded Value
Adult Octopus cards come pre-loaded with HK$150. Child, Elder, and Personalized Octopus cards come pre-loaded with HK$50 and HK$130, respectively.
Additional Value
You can add additional value to your Octopus card at any Octopus Add Value Machine or at authorized service centers. You can add as much value as you want, up to a maximum of HK$10,000.
Card Fees
There is no monthly fee for using an Octopus card. However, there is a HK$10 replacement fee if you lose your card.
