Cycle rickshaws? Fifteen thousand dong for a quick ten minute spin – romantic but pricey. I haggled down to twelve once, near Hoan Kiem Lake, August last year. Sweet deal!

So yeah, budget accordingly. It all adds up. Hanoi's public transport is cheapish, taxis can sting. Rickshaws are a treat but, ouch, the wallet.

How to pay for Hanoi Metro?

Okay, so, Hanoi Metro... paying was kinda weird the first time.

It was November 2024, super humid, near Hanoi Station, and I was sweating bullets trying to figure it out.

I think they said it would connect to everything eventually, buses and whatever, but not yet, not when I was there. Ugh.

Tickets: Little card things, like ATM cards, yeah.
Where to buy: Stations, either someone at a booth or from those vending machines.

I messed it up, put it in wrong or something. I am clumsy!

It's supposed to all link up with other transport. Maybe even taxis one day? That would be SO useful. Imagine!

Getting the hang of it was good though.

I remember nearly dropping the card. Clumsy I am.

The metro is... modernish? I guess.

I was there last summer, the trains were packed! So crowded. My friend, he lives near a station; it's always busy. I swear. It's really changed things, the traffic is still nuts, but the metro helps a bit. I think it'll be even better once they finish all the lines. It's a big deal for Hanoi, a really big deal, for sure.
