Is a taxi in Vietnam expensive?
Taxis in Vietnam are generally affordable. Expect to pay around $0.50-$0.65 USD per kilometer with reputable companies like Mai Linh or Vinasun. Always ensure the meter is running or agree on a price beforehand. Ride-hailing apps like Grab offer competitive rates.
Vietnam Taxi Fare: Expensive or Cheap?
Okay, so Vietnam taxis… cheap or pricey? Here’s my take, based on, ya know, actually being there.
Honestly, they felt pretty darn affordable. Especially compared to, like, New York City cab fares. Seriously.
Think around 12,000-15,000 VND per km. That’s like, what, fifty cents US? Crazy! I usually went with Mai Linh or Vinasun for that.
I def learned my lesson to check the meter running though! Or just agree on a price beforehand. Trust me on this. Happened to me on 18 July last year in Hanoi…overpaid by like 50,000 VND because I wasn’t paying attention. Ugh.
Grab can be a lifesaver. Prices are upfront, no haggling. Total win.
Oh, and expect surges during rush hour or Tet. It’s just the way it is.
