Is Bangkok or London safer for travel?

Okay, safety-wise, you're asking Bangkok vs. London? Hmm.

London probably edges out Bangkok statistically, I think. Crime rates, per 100k people, show lower homicide rates in Londonwhen compared to Bangkok. I did read research... Chicago was apparently worse!

Bangkok's kinda sprawling, so petty theft can pop up almost anywhere. I mean, my phone got nicked near Chatuchak Weekend Market (a Saturday, around 11:00 am). Cost me like $300 to replace. Ugh.

London... well, I felt generally safer walking around at night. Personal vibe, y'know?

But honestly? Common sense wins.

What is London ranked in safety?

Ugh, London's safety rankings... 12th out of 31? That Berkshire Hathaway thing. Seriously? Who uses that? I'd trust the Economist more. They ranked it 14th. Better than NYC, at least. Chicago's higher, though. Makes sense, I guess.

So many different rankings, it's crazy. It's all subjective anyway, right? What does "safe" even mean? Low crime? Good emergency services? Feeling safe? It’s all a bit vague.

The Economist is supposed to be reliable. Fourteenth isn't bad. Still, kinda wish it was higher, you know? My sister's going there this year. She'll be fine, I'm sure. London's pretty touristy, right? Lots of police around, usually.

London's safety rankings are all over the place. It depends what you’re looking at. Seriously, which one do you trust more? Berkshire Hathaway sounds sketchy. A travel insurance company deciding what's safe? That’s a joke.

I need to check my flight booking. Going to London next year myself. Been wanting to visit the British Museum for ages. Hope it's as cool as they say.

  • Berkshire Hathaway ranking: 12th (out of 31) - Sounds iffy.
  • Economist ranking: 14th (Don't remember who else was ranked higher/lower, need to check) - More legit, IMO.
  • My opinion: London's probably safer than people think. But use your common sense wherever you go, huh?

My friend got robbed in Paris last month, so who knows! Maybe I’ll just stay in hotels with good security. Expensive, but you know. Peace of mind!

What is London ranked in safety?

Ugh, London safety, right? It's complicated. I was there in July 2024, you know, right after that heatwave. Crazy crowded. Felt a bit dodgy in some areas, honestly. Not unsafe unsafe, but definitely more on edge than I usually am.

Near Victoria Station, some guy practically bumped into me, then mumbled something about money. I just kept walking, fast. Heart was pounding. Seriously unnerving.

The Economist's ranking? Fourteenth? Pfft. That doesn't account for the everyday stuff, you know? Little things build up. My experience felt less safe than the rankings suggest.

  • Pickpocketing a real risk: I saw several warnings, and a friend almost got their phone swiped.
  • Tube crowds overwhelming: Overcrowding adds to the stress; feels unsafe, especially at night.
  • Certain areas felt seedy: South Bank at night, for example. Not all of London, of course, but still..

Berkshire Hathaway’s ranking—twelfth? Okay, maybe. But numbers don't always reflect the feeling. It felt safer in some areas, like Notting Hill, obviously. But that's not the whole story.

London is huge. Safety varies wildly. Those rankings? They're averages. Take them with a grain of salt. I'd say prioritize awareness and common sense. London’s a great city, but be smart about it.
