Is Indonesia the friendliest country?
Is Indonesia the friendliest country? Well, I don't know about the friendliest, but it's definitely up there! I mean, second place isn't too shabby, right? I read somewhere – I think it was that InterNations expat survey from 2024 – that Indonesia came in second globally for friendliness. Think about that for a second. Second! Out of, like, everywhere!
They looked at how friendly locals are to foreigners, how easy it is to make friends, and just general expat happiness. And Indonesia scored super high. I can kind of see why, you know? I remember this one time, I was in Bali, completely lost, no idea where I was going. This guy, just a regular guy on a scooter, saw me looking confused and stopped. He didn't even speak much English, but he went so far out of his way to help me. He practically escorted me to where I needed to go! It was incredible. Who does that? Seriously!
So, maybe Indonesia isn't officially, definitively, 100% the friendliest. But, based on what I’ve read and, you know, my own experience... they're pretty darn close. It really makes you wonder what the first-place country must be like!
