Is August a good time to travel to Vietnam?

August in Vietnam... It’s complicated.

Central Vietnam... Maybe early August is okay. I remember Da Nang in August 2018. Hot, very hot.

• Rain is a real possibility, especially toward the end.
• It’s the tail end of the dry season kinda.

The rest of the country? Yeah, rain. Hanoi can be pretty humid then. Ugh. It's not too bad. But still.

• Expect downpours, brief but intense.
• Think sudden floods, that's possible.

Flights and hotels? Cheaper. Low season, right? A silver lining, perhaps? Barely.

• Fewer tourists, yay.
• Empty beaches... alluring, yeah?

Additional Points:

• Central Vietnam includes cities like Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue. Think beaches and ancient towns.
• Hanoi is the capital, located in the north.
• Low season usually means fewer crowds and lower prices. But more rain too. I think so anyway.
• Check the weather forecast right before you go. Always.

Is it worth visiting Vietnam in August?

August...Vietnam. Worth it?

I don't know.

Central coast beaches beckon.

High season, they say.

• July and August: Peak heat. Peak crowds.
• Summer holidays: Kids everywhere, probably. Not my thing.
• My sister, she loved Hoi An. Hoi An is in Central Vietnam. Says the tailors are amazing, but it was crowded. She went last August too. Huh.

Do I like crowds? Nope. Beaches are better empty, I think. Quieter. Like me. August... Maybe not. So many things I need, not a crowded beach.

I miss those empty mornings at Myrtle Beach.

• Walking the shore...alone.
• Finding sea shells.
• Thinking. Just thinking.

That's worth it.

Is it okay to go to Vietnam in August?

Ugh, Vietnam in August, huh? Listen, August can be alright, yeah. It really depends on where you’re planning to go.

Like, seriously, the north? Prob gonna have some storms. I remeber one time a typhoon came by and we lost electricity for days! But hey, don’t let it stop you.

The whole country is still pretty, like seriously gorgeous. Central Vietnam might be your best bet that time of year though, just sayin'. I went to Hoi An last summer and it was fab.

Here’s the deal though, things to think about:

• Weather is unpredictable, obviously. Be prepared for rain gear or just, you know, embrace the wet.
• It's hot! Humidity is next level, so pack light clothes. Drink lots of water because you will be sweating.
• Tourists, like always. August can be kinda busy, school holidays and all. But not crowded as, like, Christmas or Tet.
• Prices, like flights and hotels, might be a lil higher.
• And seriously, travel insurance is a must. You just never know what's gonna happen. Especially with possible storms and stuff.

And seriously, you could explore the Mekong Delta, which I'm planing to do in September. The floating markets are so awesome. So yeah go.

Is August a good time to visit Hoi An?

August...Hoi An... It's complicated.

The dry season ends then, I think. August is the tail end of it. I went, what, ten years ago? Yeah, ten.

• Dry season ending.
• Warm sunshine.

It was...hot. I remember the heat clinging, especially near the tailor shops. So many colors.

Beaches are good then, or so they say. I didn't go much. Too crowded. Too…bright.

• Crowded.
• Bright.
• Tailor shops everywhere!

I walked the old town. Listened to the river. It's hard to explain, I don't know why I went there. Felt like something was calling me.

• River sounds.
• Old town feeling.
• A call, maybe?

And the food. I ate Cao Lau every day. Every. Single. Day. Can't find it like that here, that's for sure. Cao Lau is amazing!

• Every day.
• Miss it.

Is it okay to visit Hanoi in August?

Hanoi in August? Fine. Expect heat.

• Highs near 30°C (86°F). Humidity's a killer.
• Rain's possible. Prepare accordingly.

Autumn's better. Cooler.

November-December: Chilly. Pack layers. Average 10-20°C (50-68°F).

My last trip: July 2023. Sweltering. Seriously. Avoid August unless you like sweating.
