My recent trip? Krabi cost me 30% less than my last Bangkok jaunt. Flights included. 2024 data, mind you. Expect this trend to continue. Bangkok’s luxury vibe inflates prices.

Krabi has its charm, too. All those limestone cliffs! Railay Beach is just ugh, gorgeous. Renting a motorbike in Ao Nang was way cheaper than renting a car in Phuket. Car in Phuket, what was I thinking? Traffic jam nightmare!

Phuket has that big airport though. So convenient if you want direct flights from abroad. Is it worth the extra cash? Maybe not. I liked that ferry from Krabi to the islands.

• Getting around: Motorbike rental is way cheaper in Krabi.

Maybe I should stick to Krabi then for my next trip. Save some dough.

How many days should I spend in Ao Nang?

Three days in Ao Nang? Overkill, darling. Unless you’re planning a competitive sandcastle building championship. Two days, tops. Think of it as a perfectly portioned amuse-bouche before the main course: Phi Phi Don.

Phi Phi Don needs your undivided attention. At least two nights there. You’ll need the time to fully appreciate its breathtaking beauty. It’s not just pretty; it’s a whole other level of “wow”, like comparing a garden gnome to Michelangelo’s David. Seriously.

Here’s the breakdown:

• Ao Nang: Two days max. One for beach bumming. One for temple trekking (Tiger Cave – ouch, those stairs!). I’d skip the island hopping tours unless you’re a seasoned sea dog. They are often tourist traps!
• Phi Phi Don: Minimum two nights. It’s simply gorgeous. Imagine a postcard, only you’re living the postcard.

My July trip? Absolutely unforgettable. Spent a delightful 24 hours in Ao Nang (mostly napping, I confess) and then promptly escaped to Phi Phi Don for a glorious three days. My tan still makes my friends jealous. Trust me. This itinerary is perfection, even if I say so myself.

Plus, everything feels less… I dunno, less fake in Krabi. You get a more authentic vibe, y’know?

• Transport: Phuket taxis are a nightmare! Meter? What meter? In Krabi, you can actually haggle and find tuk-tuks or songthaews that are relatively affordable.

• Food: Phuket’s restaurants cater mostly to tourists, jacking up the prices. Krabi offers more local eateries, where you can feast on delicious and authentic Thai cuisine without breaking the bank. I’m telling you.

• Accommodation: While both have luxury options, Krabi also has a wider range of budget-friendly guesthouses and bungalows. Remember that time we stayed at that shack in Railay?

• Activities: Even activities like boat trips to the islands are generally more affordable in Krabi. I remember Phi Phi island costs a fortune. So not a vibe.

I also like Krabi’s beaches better, but that’s just me. Its so beautiful in my oppinion.
