Chennai's Metro Rail system offers a significant boost to the city's public transportation network, but does it run around the clock? The short answer is no. While it provides extensive service during the day, Chennai Metro is not currently a 24-hour operation.

For commuters needing to travel during weekday hours, the system offers a reliable and efficient service. The Blue Line, a vital artery through the city, operates from 5:30 AM to 11:00 PM. The Green Line, serving a different corridor, runs slightly longer hours, from 5:29 AM to 11:19 PM. This allows for a substantial window of opportunity for most daily commutes, accommodating both early morning and evening travel needs.

The frequency of the trains also contributes to its appeal. During peak hours, the wait time between trains is a manageable 10 minutes for both lines. During off-peak hours, the frequency drops to a maximum of 20 minutes, still considered reasonable for many commuters.
