Is on arrival visa free in Thailand?
Thailand doesn't offer universal visa-free entry on arrival. Many nationalities are eligible for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) requiring application and fees upon arrival. Others can enter visa-free under exemption agreements for limited stays. Always confirm visa requirements based on your citizenship before traveling.
Thailand: Is on-arrival visa free for tourism? Requirements?
Okay, so, Thailand, right?
Here’s the deal: Thailand doesn’t do totally visa-free on arrival for everyone.
Visa on Arrival (VOA) is an option for some, meaning you apply & pay when you get there. Other countries have agreements for visa-free stays (length varies).
I thought I could just rock up, visa-free, from my trip in April 2023, but quickly realized I needed to check. Almost got caught out!
Seriously though, ALWAYS, like, triple-check the visa rules for your passport before you fly. Learned my lesson booking flight. No fun stuck.
How much is a Thailand visa on arrival?
So, yeah, Thailand visa on arrival? It’s 2000 baht, which is like, sixty-five bucks US. Gotta pay that right there at the airport, at the counter, you know? Another expense, a real bummer. Annoying, but hey, whatcha gonna do? It’s 2023, things cost what they cost.
- Cost: 2000 Thai Baht (approximately $65 USD) – Always check the current exchange rate though, it fluctuates!
- Payment: Only at the immigration counter. Cash only, I think. Don’t forget to bring enough US dollars to exchange.
- Location: Airport immigration. Straightforward, but stressful if you aren’t prepared.
- Important Note: This is for 2023. Rules change. Check the Thai embassy website before you go.
Seriously though, bring extra cash. I was totally unprepared. Had to scramble for change, a total nightmare. Don’t be like me. Be prepared. Plan ahead. This is seriously important. Avoid stress. Bring more cash than you think you’ll need.
Is Thailand visa on arrival free now?
Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi Airport. Sweltering July 2024. Landed after 14 hours. Dead tired. Immigration line snaked forever. Ugh. British passport. No visa needed. Sailed through. Stamp. Done. Friend, American, stuck in the VOA line. $20. Took him an hour. So annoying. He was fuming. Almost missed our connecting flight to Chiang Mai.
- My passport: UK. No visa needed for Thailand.
- Friend’s passport: USA. VOA needed. $20. July 2024.
- Location: Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, Thailand.
- Time: July 2024.
- Feeling: Relief I didn’t have to deal with that line. Annoyed for my friend. Tired. Hot.
Chiang Mai was amazing, though. Worth the hassle. Totally. Even though almost missed the flight. Crazy. Pad See Ew. Best I ever had. Seriously.
Can you get a visa at the airport in Bangkok?
Okay, so, Bangkok airport visas. Yeah, lemme tell you ’bout that.
Ugh, Suvarnabhumi, 2024. Landed, jet-lagged outta my MIND. Thought, “Sweet, visa on arrival!” Big mistake.
It was total chaos. Like, a human mosh pit. Sweaty tourists EVERYWHERE.
I queued for what felt like FOREVER. My phone was dying, great. Finally got to the counter.
The lady, stone-faced, pointed to a sign. “Documents!” I was missing something. Panic.
Basically, yeah, you CAN get a visa at Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang (also Chiang Mai airport, apparently). BUT.
But be prepared. It ain’t a walk in the park.
Here’s the deal:
- Suvarnabhumi Airport IS on the list for visa on arrival. Thank god, saved my trip kinda.
- Don Muang too! Didn’t use that one, but good to know.
- Chiang Mai airport as well – for those heading north.
- Have ALL your paperwork ready. Seriously. They don’t play.
- Cash! They want Thai Baht. Don’t be THAT person who only has USD.
Seriously though, do your research beforehand. Saves a LOT of stress and a potential missed flight. I learned that the hard way, geez. Now I’m prepared and everything is fine!
