Is Shinkansen cheaper than plane?

Is the Shinkansen cheaper than flying? Well, that's a tricky one! It really depends. I mean, you can sometimes find crazy cheap deals on budget airlines like Peach, especially if you're super organized and book way ahead of time. Right? But the Shinkansen…ugh, the price fluctuations drive me nuts! Sometimes it’s actually comparable to a budget flight, other times it feels ridiculously expensive, like, highway robbery expensive.

You kinda have to weigh the convenience factor against the cost, you know? Shinkansen travel is just so smooth and stress-free. No airport security lines, no cramped seats, just zoom! I remember once, flying from Tokyo to Osaka was technically cheaper, but by the time I factored in getting to Narita, the security hassle, and then getting from KIX into the city… the Shinkansen probably would’ve been quicker and less of a headache.
