Is there a high speed train from Shanghai airport to Suzhou?

So, you’re wondering if there’s a whizz-bang high-speed train straight from Shanghai airport to Suzhou? Sadly, no. I wish! That would make life so much easier, wouldn’t it? I remember trying to get from the airport to my cousin’s place in Suzhou once – what a saga that was.

Anyway, the reality is you need to do a bit of a hop-skip-and-a-jump. It’s not terrible, but it’s not exactly a direct shot either. First, you’ll take the metro, Line 2 I think it was – honestly, the Shanghai metro system is a maze, even I get lost sometimes! – all the way to Shanghai Railway Station. That takes about an hour and twenty minutes, give or take, depending on how packed the train is. Remember that time I got squeezed like a sardine? Ugh.

Then, from Shanghai Railway Station, you jump on a high-speed train to Suzhou. That part’s quick – a breezy thirty minutes or so. Beautiful scenery, if you manage to snag a window seat. I usually just doze off, though. Long day of travel, you know?

All in all, you’re looking at about an hour and fifty minutes of travel time. Not ideal, but hey, at least the high-speed train part is comfy. Way better than battling rush hour traffic, which I once did. Never again. That was a four hour nightmare. Seriously.

So yeah, plan for a bit of a journey if you’re heading to Suzhou from Shanghai airport!
