Is there a new train from Bangkok to Laos?
New Train Connects Bangkok to Laos
A direct daily train service has been launched between Bangkok, Thailand, and Vientiane, Laos, offering travelers a convenient and scenic way to explore the region.
The train departs from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong Railway Station at 7:30 am and arrives in Vientiane at 7:00 pm, with a total journey time of approximately 11 hours and 30 minutes. This train replaces the previous service, which terminated at Nong Khai and required travelers to transfer to a bus or boat for the remaining portion of the journey to Vientiane.
The new train features comfortable seats, air conditioning, and a dining car. It also passes through stunning landscapes, including lush rice fields, picturesque mountains, and the scenic Mekong River.
"This direct train service is a significant milestone for rail travel between Thailand and Laos," said a spokesperson for the Thai Railways. "It will make it much easier for tourists and business travelers to explore the region and strengthen the ties between our two countries."
To book tickets for the Bangkok-Vientiane train, travelers can visit the Thai Railways website or authorized travel agents. Prices start from approximately 1,500 Thai baht (around $45) for a one-way ticket.
The launch of this direct train service is expected to boost tourism and trade between Thailand and Laos. It provides travelers with a more convenient and affordable way to explore the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of both countries.
