Laos Visa on Arrival: Is it Available & How to Get One?

Ugh, Laos visas, right? So confusing! I was there last August, Luang Prabang, beautiful. Got my visa on arrival, no problem. Thirty days, standard. Cost? Around $30-40 USD, I think. Can’t recall exactly.

The airport was a breeze. Immigration smooth. Just needed passport photos. Don’t forget those! They were pretty strict about the passport validity, too, at least six months remaining.

For extending, that’s Vientiane. Heard it’s a bit of a hassle, 60 days extra, you have to go to the immigration office personally. My friend tried, he said it took a whole day. So, plan accordingly. laoevisa.gov.la is the official site, check that.

E-visas are a thing now, too, apparently. Some border crossings offer them, save you some time maybe. I didn’t use one myself, went the old school way. Next time, maybe I’ll try the e-visa route.

Laos visa on arrival: available at select entry points, 30 days initially. Extensions possible in Vientiane (60 days). E-visas also an option. Check laoevisa.gov.la.
