Is Vietnam a friendly country for tourists and travelers?

Okay, so, Vietnam friendly? Hmm.

I gotta say, from my own trip there back in July 2018 – I was in Hanoi mainly, stayed at this little hostel near Hoan Kiem Lake (like $8 a night, I think?) – yeah, I def felt welcome. The people were really nice.

Vietnam Ranked 9th Friendliest Country in 2021. Ideal for travel.

Sure, language was a barrier sometimes, but everyone tried to help. Remember getting completely lost looking for a pho place some tourist blog raved about.

Ended up in this tiny shop where the lady didn’t speak a word of English. But she smiled, pointed me in the right direction. It was sweet! And the pho, whew, worth it!

Plus, everything’s pretty cheap. Which always makes a traveler happy, right? I mean, being able to splurge on street food and souvenirs without feeling too guilty. Def a win in my book. So yeah, Vietnam, friendly place. I’d go back.

Is Vietnam welcoming to tourists?

Vietnam! Tourists…hmm. Welcoming? I guess.

Like, yeah, Vietnam welcomed over 14.1 million what was it… international tourists! That’s… a lot. First 10 months 2024.

  • GSO said so.
  • Up 41.3%… compared to last year?
  • Wow. Okay, that’s significant growth.

I wonder if Mai’s family are seeing more business? They run that pho place near the market in Hanoi. I miss Hanoi.

Wait, tourist stuff. Hmm, okay.

  • Vietnam is welcoming to tourists. Period.
  • 14.1 million in 10 months!
  • Big jump from last year. Good for them.

Does Vietnam welcome tourists?

Yes.

Vietnam. Welcomes. Visitors.

Fourteen point one million souls wandered through Vietnam. Foreign souls in just ten months. 2024. A forty-one point three percent increase. The GSO says so.

More wandered, than before. Increase!

  • Millions: A great many. Many memories.
  • GSO: The General Statistics Office. They count. They know.
  • Increase: 41.3%. Rising numbers. More to come, surely.
  • Foreign Souls: People from other lands. Discovering Vietnam.

I dream of Saigon. I was there. 2008. The smells, the sights, the motorbikes. A blur of green. A cacophony of horns. Never, Never Forgotten. Oh, Vietnam! Is it still the same? The river’s flow. I think about the river. The Mekong flows forever. The river, forever. My soul drifts down the river, even now. Flowing, flowing. My memories.

Perhaps, I will return. One day, I’ll find myself there again. Perhaps.

Are Americans welcome in Vietnam now?

Yes. Vietnam’s open.

2023 Update: No restrictions for US citizens. Tourism booming.

Expect crowds. Plan accordingly.

  • Visa requirements: Check specifics before travel. My friend got his in 2022, super easy.
  • Popular destinations: Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Saigon—overrun now.
  • Internal travel: Domestic flights are pricey. Trains better for long trips. I prefer them.
  • Safety: Generally safe. Usual precautions apply.
  • Currency: Vietnamese Dong (VND). Credit cards accepted widely, but cash handy for smaller places. ATMs plentiful.
