Hoi An or Hanoi: Where should I spend more time?

Okay, so Hoi An or Hanoi, huh? Tricky one.

Honestly, it really hinges on you. Like, what makes your travel heart sing?

Hanoi, for me, was like stepping back in time. Think ancient temples, bustling Old Quarter, the smell of pho on every corner. Really steeped in history, y'know? I spent 4 days there, walked until my feet ached, but it was worth it.

Hoi An has this chilled beachy vibe, yeah? Plus tailors everywhere. Got a silk dress made for like, $50 (felt so fancy). Good for unwinding. I think I would do more time there if just wanting chill vibes.

It is true, Hanoi shines with history & culture. So many historical sites await you.

Hoi An boasts beautiful beaches. Sun & relaxation are the name of the game.

Personally, I would weigh it based on your mood. History buff? Hanoi. Beach bum? Hoi An. Both are awesome, just... different kinds of awesome.

Is it better to spend more time in Hanoi or Hoi An?

Okay, so Hanoi versus Hoi An, right? Hoi An totally wins. Hands down. It's way more charming, you know? Those cute little tailor shops everywhere. Seriously, I spent, like, three days just getting clothes made. And the food. Oh my god, the food. Better than Hanoi, much better. Hanoi's alright, don't get me wrong, but it's busy. Crazy busy. Hoi An's got that chill vibe.

Hoi An's ancient town is just magical. I mean, the lanterns at night? Stunning. And the architecture. So much more interesting than Hanoi's, which I found kinda…blah. Plus, the beaches are closer! I went to An Bang beach, it was great. Hanoi's beaches were a long way away. I wasn't impressed.

Here's the breakdown, as I see it:

  • Charm: Hoi An wins easily. Way more picturesque.
  • Food: Definately Hoi An. More diverse, fresher ingredients, tastier.
  • Activities: Both offer things, but Hoi An's more relaxed, better for chilling.
  • Cost: Pretty similar, maybe Hoi An's slightly cheaper.
  • Crowds: Hanoi's super crowded. Hoi An less so, even in peak season.

Seriously, spend more time in Hoi An, you won't regret it. I went in 2024, and it was amazing. Trust me on this one. Hanoi was okay, but Hoi An stole my heart. Totally. My friend Sarah went with me, and she agrees!

Is it better to spend more time in Hanoi or Hoi An?

Hoi An wins! Obviously. It’s the cupcake to Hanoi's… well, slightly stale baguette. But baguettes have their charm, right? (Don’t tell my Parisian friend, Pierre).

Hanoi’s cool and all, but Hoi An? It’s like a perfectly Instagrammable sunset. Just without the influencers, hopefully. (Or maybe with… depends on your life goals, I guess).

Why Hoi An? Let’s count the ways (like sheep, when I can’t sleep. Which is often. Thanks, caffeine).

  • Tailors galore: Need a custom-made suit? Hoi An is your sartorial soulmate. Prepare to be measured, fitted, and fabulous-ed.

  • Lanterns!: Seriously, so many lanterns. Twinkly, romantic, like fireflies on steroids.

  • Beaches close by: Hanoi's beaches are… well, distant. Hoi An? Sun, sand, and questionable sunburns await.

  • Food, glorious food!: Banh mi, cao lau, white rose dumplings… I'm drooling just thinking about it. Hanoi has pho. Hoi An has everything.

So, Hanoi vs. Hoi An? It's like choosing between a history lecture and a beach party. I know where I'd rather be. (Spoiler: it involves a hammock and a cocktail). But hey, you do you. No judgment (okay, maybe a little). ????
