I gotta say, I've seen it firsthand. That beach in Thailand, Koh Phangan, back in '15 – remember that? Before the super-crazy boom? Now it’s just...different. Used to be peaceful, now it's just packed, trashed, & louder (more expensive too). Sad, really sad ????.

Exploitation of culture just grinds my gears. The "authentic" experiences? Mostly staged, fake, & tourist traps. Like those "traditional" dances in Bali that cost $50 a pop, but locals said the actual thing is completely different.

And the entitlement?! Omg, tourists acting like they own the place, expecting everyone to speak their language, then getting angry when they don't. Saw it happen in Rome, Italy. I had to apologize for them (august 2018) for the boorish american tourist acting up to the poor italian man!

Loss of jobs? This is a tricky one. I heard a lot of hotel workers saying that while tourism brought jobs, they’re often low-paying, seasonal, and with zero job security. Also it's not the locals who usually own the hotel is it?

Unequal growth is a big thing too! Luxury resorts sprouting up while local villages still struggle with basic resources. Total disconnect ????.

And yeah, conservation. They say tourism funds it. But what if it actually ruins more than it saves? Did you see the smog in Venice? I wish they just left it alone.

Environmental damage is a given, isn't it? All those planes and cruise ships? It's awful. I learned to snowboard up near Baker, and now I regret flying.

I remember thinking, "Okay, I'm gonna save money by buying gelato from local places".

Did I? No! I ended up at that fancy gelateria near the Trevi fountain. Worth it, though.
