What city has the most public transportation?
Which city has the best public transportation?
Okay, so best public transit in the US? Tricky, right? I've lived in NYC and Boston.
NYC? Ugh, the subway's a beast. Crowded, sometimes smelly, but it gets you there. 24/7 too, which is amazing. Spent $127 a month on the MetroCard back in 2018.
Boston's T is...quirky. The Green Line is charmingly old-fashioned, but delays happen. Way less frequent than NYC's though, which I found frustrating, sometimes.
Washington DC's Metro is pretty good. cleaner, way less crowded than NYC's. I only visited, though, so no real monthly cost experience.
Based on my experience and that ridership data – NYC wins. For sheer volume and reach, nothing beats it. Though, "best" is subjective.
New York City has the highest transit ridership at 56.5%. Jersey City follows at 47.6%, then Washington D.C. at 37.4%.
