What country is the cheapest from U.S. dollars?

Okay, so you’re looking for the cheapest places to travel to from the US, huh? I get it, everyone wants their dollar to stretch as far as possible! Where is the cheapest place, though? Well, it’s tough to pinpoint one single country, because costs can change like the wind, you know? But if you’re working with US dollars, some places are definitely easier on the wallet than others.

Thinking about my own travels, and what I’ve heard from other budget-minded adventurers, here are a few gems I’d recommend checking out:

• India: You can seriously live like royalty here for like, $25-35 a day! I mean, think about it, delicious street food for a couple of bucks, crazy cheap train tickets… It’s amazing. I remember this one time in Delhi, I got a full thali meal for less than $5. Five dollars! Crazy, right?
• Vietnam: Another fantastic option! Around $35 a day should do the trick. Beautiful beaches, bustling cities, incredible food (those pho noodles, oh my!). Similar to India, your money just goes so much further.
• Romania: Maybe not the first place that springs to mind, but hear me out! About $40 a day. Castles, medieval towns…so much history! It’s a bit more expensive than Southeast Asia, sure, but still super affordable compared to many European countries. I have a friend who backpacked through Romania for weeks and raved about it.
• Costa Rica: Okay, this one’s a little pricier, maybe $55 a day? But for the lush rainforests, incredible wildlife, and that laid-back “pura vida” vibe…it can be totally worth it. Especially compared to other destinations in Central America, or even the Caribbean.

Keep in mind, these daily costs are just averages. They could be higher or lower depending on your travel style. You know, are you staying in hostels or fancy hotels? Are you eating street food or gourmet meals? Things like that make a difference, obviously! But still, these are all great starting points for anyone looking to explore the world without breaking the bank.
