What is Australian currency called?
Okay, lemme tell ya ’bout Aussie money!
It’s the Australian dollar, or AUD. Pretty straightforward, yeah?
We got notes like $5, $10, $20, $50, and the big one, the $100. Remember getting my first fifty for my b’day at the ol’ cricket ground back in ’98? Good times.
Then there are the coins. 5, 10, 20, 50 cent pieces…plus the $1 and $2 coins. I think I once found a super rare misprinted 20c, ha. Thought I was rich for a sec.
Yeah, Australian Dollar (AUD) is what we use. Notes: $5, $10, $20, $50, $100. Coins: 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, $2. Keep that in mind if you ever venture down under. 😉
Do Australians call it dollar bucks?
Aussies? Bucks? Yeah, nah. Dollaroos. It’s like calling shrimp prawns, mate. Completely different animal. We chuck a dollar sign on it, $, same as the Yanks. Bucks? Dough? More a Seppo thing. True blue Aussies? Dollar, dollarydoos, clams, even smackeroos sometimes. Heck, I once heard a bloke call ’em “kangaroo kisses.” Never again.
- Dollarydoos: Like a kangaroo hopped on the keyboard. Classic Aussie slang.
- Clams: Bit old school. My grandpa used this one. Makes me think of pearl diving.
- Smackeroos: Sounds like a good time. Like winning big at the pokies.
- Dollar: Plain, simple. Gets the job done. Like a vegemite sandwich.
- Bucks/Dough: Nope. Leave that to the Americans. They can have it.
Just got back from Bunnings, spent a few dollarydoos on a new barbie. The snags gonna taste like a million bucks, though. (Not actual bucks). I live in Perth by the way, great weather here. Except for that cyclone last year. Took me bloody roof. Cost a few dollarydoos to fix. Anyway, gotta go. Footy’s on. Go Eagles!
