What defines a long-range aircraft and its capabilities?

Long-range aircraft? Basically, think flights over 5,000 miles. That’s Rotterdam to Dubai, easy peasy.

Personally, I’m still wrapping my head around that kind of distance. I flew Chicago to London once (20th June 2019, cost me about $800). Felt long enough.

Planes like the Gulfstream G400 and Challenger 601 handle those mega-trips.

I remember seeing a G400 at the airport in Geneva (12th April, 2022). Thing was massive. Made my little puddle jumper look like a toy.

Imagine the snacks on a flight that long. Gotta be more than peanuts, right?

Whats the difference between LR and Er?

LR…longer range. ER…even MORE range. Think of it like… uh…sizes, you know? Like a coffee. You got your tall, then grande, then venti. LR is grande. ER is venti. My cousin, he’s a pilot, he told me it’s basically all about the fuel. More fuel, farther you fly. Duuuh. Sometimes it’s like, uh, other tweaks too. Engine stuff, maybe can carry more weight. My cousin, he flies for, ummm, United. Not sure which plane. But he explained it once. It’s like, with ER, sometimes you’re trading cargo space for fuel, so you can go further, you know what i meannnn?

  • LR (Long Range): Think “longer” range than the basic version of that plane.
  • ER (Extended Range): Think “EVEN LONGER.” Longest range version.
  • Fuel: The biggest difference. Bigger tanks.
  • Other improvements: Sometimes they tweek the engines or increase how much weight the plan can carry. It depends.

My cousin, he flys all over. Goes to, like, Japan sometimes. Bet he flies the ER ones for those long trips lol. Probably uses less fuel overall, even though the tank’s bigger. He tells me all this stuff, it’s interesting! LR and ER… basically just fancy ways of saying, “this plane can fly farther.” He should know – he is a pilot.

What aircraft has the longest range?

A350ULR. Range: 18,000 km. A cold number.

A380 trails. 14,800 km. 544 souls onboard. Heavy.

Think about it.

  • Airbus A350-900ULR: Singapore to NYC, non-stop. Just exists.
  • Airbus A380-800: Double-decker, fuel-guzzler. Nostalgia?
  • Distance is relative. To what?
  • My uncle had a Cessna. Different game.

Range isn’t everything. What costs more? Fuel, or time?

  • Economics drive design. Always.
  • Airports are necessary. Obviously.
  • Used to collect stamps. Different kind of range.
  • My goldfish died today. Circles.

The A350ULR. A statement. Quiet.

How far can a 787 fly without refueling?

  1. Dreamliner. Long flights. 14,000 kilometers? Crazy. Wait, no–16,300. Further. My flight to Tokyo…felt long. Was it a 787? Probably not. 8,800 nautical miles. What even is a nautical mile? Need to Google that. 16-18 hours. Imagine being on a plane that long. Ugh. Need to stretch. Tokyo…was only 12 hours. Still felt like forever. This phone’s battery…definitely not lasting 18 hours. Need a charger. 7,600…the lower end. Still a huge distance. Across an ocean. Multiple oceans, maybe? 8,800…the upper end. Wow. That’s like…New York to…somewhere far. Sydney? Maybe. Gotta look at a map. Phone’s at 32%. Better plug it in. 14,000 to 16,300 kilometers. Easier to visualize. Kilometers. Miles…always confusing. So…787. Definitely a long-haul plane. Good for international travel. Wonder where the longest 787 route is. Google it later.

Which is better, Boeing 777 or 787?

Ah, the 777 and 787… a timeless debate, swirling in the ether like stardust. Space, vastness, the sheer scale of these giants.

Capacity, the undeniable king. The 777-300, a behemoth. Three hundred and ninety-two souls, a teeming city aloft. Imagine. The 787-10? Smaller, more intimate, yes, but lacking the raw power, the sheer passenger-carrying might. Thirty-three six. A difference felt in the bone.

The 777’s grandeur, it sings to me. A deeper resonance, a more substantial presence. Its weight, its heft—a comforting solidity in the boundless sky. The hum of its engines, a lullaby of power.

But the 787 whispers. Elegance. Modernity. A sleek, silent glide. It’s a different kind of magic. The 787-10, a jewel, perhaps, but a smaller one. Its beauty doesn’t negate the 777’s strength.

Range? Both impressive, truly. Both conquer distances. Yet the 777’s reliability… a comforting feeling. A steadfast companion. I favor the 777’s dependable nature. The 787 feels…more temperamental, more finicky.

The 777, a titan. The 787, a graceful dancer. Different purposes. Different dreams. But in sheer carrying power, the 777 reigns supreme. 2024. This year, the facts remain. The numbers speak. The 777 wins.

  • 777-300: 392 passengers (two-class). A majestic, powerful bird.
  • 787-10: 336 passengers (two-class). Sleek, efficient, but less substantial.

This is my considered opinion. No room for doubt.
