What is considered luxury in Vietnam?
Oh, Vietnams changed so much! What was once a luxury – a car, even an air conditioner! – is becoming everyday for so many. Its amazing to see that kind of economic leap. The rise of the middle class is palpable; you see it in the shiny new phones and the upmarket shops springing up everywhere. Its bittersweet, though; I miss the simpler days, but its exciting to witness this incredible growth.
What’s considered luxury in Vietnam? Gosh, that’s a tough one, because Vietnam’s changed so dramatically! Remember when just having a car was a HUGE deal? Or even an air conditioner? Seriously, my aunt was practically royalty when she got her first AC unit back in the 90s! Now? It’s becoming pretty common, at least in the cities. It’s amazing, the economic growth, you know? Mind-blowing, really.
The rise of the middle class… it’s everywhere. You see it in all the shiny new iPhones – everyone seems to have one these days – and all these fancy shops popping up, selling stuff I never even dreamt of back then. There’s a whole new generation that never knew what it was like to struggle to put food on the table. Makes me feel… old, I guess?
It’s bittersweet, though. I mean, I kinda miss the simpler days, the feeling of community, the way everyone knew each other. There was a different kind of richness then, not material, but in relationships, you know? But at the same time… seeing this growth, this progress… it’s incredible. It really is. My cousin just bought an apartment in District 1 – can you believe it? Something I never thought possible when I was growing up. It makes you hopeful, too. For the future. For everyone’s future. So yeah, what’s a luxury now? It’s hard to say, because what was once a dream is now becoming reality for so many.
