What is peak hour in London?

Peak hours in London, when fares are highest, are typically Monday to Friday between 6:30 AM - 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Public holidays are excluded. Travel outside these times, or from outside Zone 1 to Zone 1 during the evening peak, qualifies for off-peak fares.

Okay, so peak hour in London… ugh, don’t even get me started. It’s basically when everyone and their dog is trying to cram onto the Tube. Think sardines, but less organized. Officially, it’s Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM – you know, that soul-crushing morning commute – and then again from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM when you’re just desperate to escape the office. Those are the times when you’ll pay the highest fares, too. Ouch. Public holidays, thankfully, are excluded. Who wants to deal with that mess on a bank holiday, right?

One time, I remember trying to get on the Central Line at 8:00 AM. Forget it. I was practically plastered against the doors, couldn’t even breathe. Learned my lesson there! Now I try to travel before or after those peak times, even if it means getting to work ridiculously early or leaving super late. Oh, and another tip? If you’re travelling into Zone 1 from outside during the evening rush (4-7 PM), you actually get off-peak fares. Which is kind of weird, if you ask me. Why is that off-peak? But hey, I’m not complaining! Anything to save a few quid, am I right?
