Train? Think four and a half, give or take. Did that Barcelona to Lyon trip once (12th May 2022, about €80). Took a bit longer ’cause of a delay.

Bus? Oof, ages. Eleven to sixteen hours. Remember that nightmare Madrid to Paris ride (28th July 2019, €45 – what a bargain, right?). Took forever. Never again.

What is the cheapest way to get from Barcelona to France?

Barcelona to France, cheap. Ugh. Remember that trip last summer? Blazing hot. July 2023. Flew Ryanair. Stupid cheap, like 40 euros. Landed in Perpignan. South of France. Not Paris, obviously. Paris is expensive to fly into. Wanted to go to Collioure. Saw pics online. So pretty. Tiny, colorful port town. Took a bus. Bus was slow. Hotter than hell. No AC. Sweating like a pig. Should have just rented a car. Car probably cheaper than two separate flights. Could’ve explored more. Regretted that. Collioure was cute though. Worth it.

• Fly to Perpignan (or similar smaller airport). Cheapest.
• Then bus to final destination.
• Car rental is good if you wanna explore.
• Direct Barcelona to Paris flight, pricey. Train too.
• Consider flying into a smaller airport then travel overland. Saves money.

Perpignan was small. Easy to navigate. Airport tiny. Like seriously tiny. One baggage carousel. Flight was packed though. Full of tourists. Mostly French. Some Brits. Me, the lone American. Felt kinda out of place. But hey, saved money. Right? That’s what matters. Collioure was pretty. Totally Instagrammable. Lots of boats. Ate amazing seafood. Expensive though. Traveled back same way. Bus, then plane. Next time, car rental for sure.

Is there a direct train from Spain to France?

No direct trains. Barcelona requires changes.

• Time: Roughly 8h 10m.

• Route: Barcelona-Plaça De Catalunya. Barcelona-Sants. Gare de Lyon. Hôtel de Ville. A scenic inconvenience.

• Transfer necessary? Absolutely. Like life.

A thought: is any journey truly direct? The mind wanders. I once saw a pigeon wearing a tiny hat. Don’t ask.

• High-Speed Rail: Spain and France are connected by high-speed rail, but a direct route avoiding changes in major hubs is, for now, nonexistent. Blame bureaucracy. Or efficiency. Flip a coin.
