What is the fastest someone has flown around the world?
The fastest around-the-world flight was achieved by Air Frances Concorde in 1992, taking just under 33 hours. However, ISS astronauts orbiting Earth complete a circumnavigation in a mere 92 minutes, significantly faster but outside the Earths atmosphere.
So, you wanna know the fastest anyone’s ever zipped around the globe? Crazy, right? I mean, just thinking about it makes my head spin!
Apparently, the record, if we’re talking on the ground – no cheating with space stations or anything – belongs to an Air France Concorde back in ’92. Thirty-three hours! Can you even imagine? That’s…well, that’s less than a day and a half. I remember seeing a documentary about it once, and it blew my mind. They were practically flying faster than sound, weren’t they? I’d love to have been on that flight, though I’m probably better off on solid ground! I get a little queasy just thinking about supersonic speed.
But then, there’s this other thing – which is kinda cheating, I guess, but still incredible. Astronauts on the ISS, those guys are whizzing around. Ninety-two minutes! That’s like, a coffee break for the rest of us, and they’ve gone all the way around the planet. It’s insane when you think about it. My nephew, he’s obsessed with space, you know? He’d probably kill to be on the ISS, even if it means no coffee breaks. He’d probably bring his own anyway.
So, fastest? Depends on how you define it, I suppose. Technically, the astronauts win, hands down. But if you’re sticking to good old-fashioned flying, that Concorde was something else!
