What is the furthest in advance you can book a flight?
How far in advance can I book a flight?
I've booked flights crazy early, like almost a year out, once for a trip to Denver in July '22. Needed to lock down that ski lodge!
330 days is generally the max booking window. But airlines do their own thing. Smaller airlines sometimes have shorter booking windows, I've noticed.
Ran into this with a smaller regional carrier, Buzz, trying to get to Poland (Gdansk, specifically) from London Stansted last May '23. Tickets weren't available until a few months out. Cost me about £60, though, super cheap.
Different airlines, different policies. Check their websites directly, it's the best way. My trip to Denver was on United and I booked it nearly 11 months out, no problem. Paid around $450, a bit steep, I guess.
Can I book tickets a year in advance?
Flight tickets, a year out? Crazy. I booked mine to Denver three months out. Got a decent price. Best time? Depends. Destination matters. My Maui trip? Six months prior. Pricey. Should've booked earlier. Learned that lesson.
- Domestic: 2-3 months out. Sweet spot, I think.
- International: 6-8 months, min. Especially Europe. Ugh, that flight was a killer on the wallet.
Gotta remember seat selection. Aisle seat essential. 6'2", can't deal with middle. Never again. That flight to Seattle. Trapped. Nightmare. Checking seat availability, crucial. Paid extra for that aisle seat. Worth every penny.
- Check airline websites directly. Kayak, Expedia...fine, but direct is better. Sometimes cheaper. Always check bag fees. Spirit, Frontier...those sneaky bag fees. Almost missed my flight once. Rushing. Bad idea.
Booking early, peace of mind. Less stress. Lock in price. Big tip: Tuesday afternoons. Cheaper flights then. Read that somewhere. Worked for me. London trip, 2024. Booked it last Tuesday. Saved a bundle.
Can you buy flights for 1 year out?
Flights? A year. Sure, some airlines let you book that far. Others? Less.
- Typical Booking Window: 330 days. Give or take.
- Airline Dependent: Varies. Look it up, lazy.
- Price Fluctuations: Early bird? Maybe not. Prices shift, like sand.
"Meh," you say. But timing is everything. Isn't it? My grandma always did buy flights early. And I got my best deal on a flight in April for New years once.
