What is the prettiest train ride?
Choosing the "prettiest" train ride is subjective, but contenders for breathtaking scenery include:
- Palace on Wheels (India): Majestic forts and palaces.
- Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (Europe): Classic elegance through charming landscapes.
- Andean Explorer (South America): Stunning Andean mountain vistas.
- Glacier Express (Switzerland): Iconic alpine scenery.
Each offers unique beauty; the best choice depends on your preference.
Most Scenic Train Rides in the World?
Okay, so best train journeys, huh? My head’s swimming with possibilities! I’m kinda obsessed with trains, you know?
The Palace on Wheels in India, opulent and crazy expensive, springs to mind. Think maharajas and seriously plush carriages. Saw pictures; insane.
Europe? The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express screams old-world glamour. A friend took it last year, shelled out a fortune. Said it was worth every penny, though.
Africa’s Rovos Rail is another level. Pictures show incredible landscapes, wild animals from the windows. It’s on my bucket list, seriously. Probably next year, if I win the lottery!
Spain’s Transcantábrico Gran Lujo looks amazing too, coastal views, seriously gorgeous. I saw a brochure at a travel show in London, October last year.
Japan’s JR Kyushu 36+3? Stunning. I read a blog, someone said the views were breathtaking. Modern and sleek, unlike others.
South America’s Andean Explorer? The high-altitude scenery is, well, mind-blowing. I saw a documentary. Seriously dramatic.
Then there’s the British Pullman, so elegant and classic. England has such beautiful countryside, the whole thing sounds so charming.
And the Glacier Express in Switzerland? Classic, right? Mountain views, fairytale villages. Everyone recommends it.
Which is the most beautiful train route in the world?
Glacier Express. Switzerland. Unmatched views. Alps.
Okay, sure, it’s a train. So what?
- Alpine meadows blur past.
- Glacial rivers. Icy.
- Bridges. Stone and steel.
Scotland’s West Highland? Lochs. Mountains. Dark beauty. New Zealand? TranzAlpine. Southern Alps. Canterbury Plains. Vast. Empty.
Who cares? Beauty fades. Another day.
- Subjectivity reigns supreme.
- Each journey unique.
- Perspective changes all.
Remember that time my phone almost died. Funny now. Wasn’t then.
What is the most memorable railway journey?
Night. Quiet. Thinking about trains. Siberia. That trip…
Long. Days blurring. Clicking tracks. Endless.
Remember birch trees flashing by. So many.
Felt small. Lost in all that space. Russia.
Vladivostok finally. End of the line. Relief.
- 9,288 kilometers. That’s a lot. Stuck with me.
- Moscow to Vladivostok. West to East. Across a continent. Changed me.
- A week on the train. Lost track of time. Just the rhythm. The wheels.
My cabin small. Shared it with a woman and her cat. She shared her food. Dried fish.
Woke up one morning. Mountains. Huge. Never seen anything like it.
Siberia… Vast. Empty. Beautiful. Still think about it. Often.
