Safest City in Vietnam for Tourists?

Okay, so safest city in Vietnam? Tricky one. I've been to Ho Chi Minh City, twice actually – November 2021 and then again last June.

It felt pretty safe, honestly. Busy, crazy busy, but safe. Pickpockets are a risk anywhere, right? But major crime? Nah, didn't see any.

Traffic, though, a different story. Scooters everywhere! Chaotic. Definitely be careful crossing the streets. That was kinda scary.

I wouldn't say it's the safest, but compared to other big cities I've visited, it's pretty up there. Safer than Bangkok for sure, in my book.

Ho Chi Minh City: relatively safe, high traffic.

Which city is safest in Vietnam?

Safe? In Vietnam? Both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, they say.

I guess.

Ideal for foreigners, huh?

  • Always crowded, anyway.
  • Tour operators all say the same thing.

It's... fine. I guess it just... exists.

It's not the safest, but safe enough.

  • Safer than others, maybe?
  • Or safer than somethings.
  • Compared to what?

Tourists like the chaos, I guess. I preferred quieter places like Da Lat, though that’s just me. Safer? Maybe.

  • It’s subjective.
  • Depends on what you want.
  • Less crowded is, for me, safer.

My sister loved Hoi An too. Not the big cities. She always said, “too many people.”

  • She was right. Always right.
  • I miss her. She knew Vietnam.
  • Well, more than me, anyway.

Maybe she’d know what city is truly safest. She always knew best.

Vietnam is a pretty safe country, actually, or so I think.

Okay, maybe I'm wrong.

Which part of Vietnam is safe to visit?

So, Vietnam's safe? Sure, as safe as juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle... mostly.

Da Nang, Ha Noi, and Ho Chi Minh City are your best bets. Think of them as Vietnam's training wheels. Other places? Well, let's just say adventures might find you.

Why don't many Indians visit? Beats me! Maybe they're all just super busy perfecting their chai recipes? Or maybe it's the paperwork... who knows? Could be aliens, even.

Safety concerns? Watch out for the usual tourist traps and motorbike mayhem. Seriously, those scooters are like angry wasps. Also, keep your valuables close, or POOF!

For first-timers, Ha Noi is the clear winner. It's got that "old-world charm" thing going on. That, and the food's ridiculously good. Trust me. I had pho so good there, I almost cried. Seriously. Ok, fine, I did cry a little. So what?

  • Pickpockets: They're ninjas in disguise, I swear. Keep an eye on your stuff!
  • Scams: Everyone's got a deal for you. Most are legit, but some are about as trustworthy as a politician's promise.
  • Motorbikes: See above: angry wasps. Avoid at all costs, unless you have nerves of steel and a death wish. Or just take a Grab.
  • Food Poisoning: Street food is AMAZING, but also a gamble. Choose wisely, my friend. I once ate something that glowed. No joke.
  • Crossing the street: It's an art form. Just walk confidently and don't stop. The traffic will flow around you... mostly.

What is the safest part of Vietnam?

Hanoi and Saigon... Ho Chi Minh City now. It's weird, isn't it? How names change.

Both cities, safe. I guess.

  • Hanoi: Always felt a little colder. Not just the weather, y'know?

  • Ho Chi Minh City: More alive. Maybe too alive sometimes.

GeoSure says personal safety is good. Good is relative, I learned that the hard way, back in '15. Lost my wallet, near Ben Thanh Market. Stolen, yeah.

Things I remember:

  • The smell of pho on a rainy morning. That's the safest thing, probably.

  • The endless motorbikes. A river of them, flowing.

  • Trying to find a decent banh mi at 3 AM.

Maybe safety isn't about crime rates. It’s about... feeling okay. At peace. Not sure where you find that.
