What is the word for coming off a ship?

Is there a better word than "disembarking"? I mean, seriously. Disembarking? It sounds so…official. Like some rigid, starched announcement. It doesn't capture the feeling, you know? That incredible feeling of FINALLY getting off the boat!

Ugh, I remember that ferry to Sardinia. The waves were CRAZY. I was so seasick I thought I'd turn green. When we finally pulled into port, "disembarking" was the last thing on my mind. It was more like a stumbling, desperate scramble for solid ground. That sweet, sweet feeling of the earth beneath my feet? Priceless. Forget disembarking – it was like being reborn!
