What subway lines run through Times Square?
Times Square is a major NYC subway hub served by many lines. You can access the 1, 2, 3, 7, A, C, E, N, Q, R, and S trains at the Times Square-42nd Street stations, with some lines also stopping at nearby 49th and 50th Street stations.
Oh my gosh, Times Square! So many subway lines, it’s a total maze, right? I remember once, I was trying to get to a Broadway show – seriously, the most important show of my life, it felt like – and I got SO lost. I swear, I ended up walking around for like, twenty minutes, completely bewildered. It’s just a jungle down there!
Anyway, to answer your question: a TON run through Times Square. Like, seriously, it’s a subway super hub. You’ve got the 1, 2, and 3 – those are the express lines, usually packed to the gills, especially during rush hour. Then there’s the 7, which is a lifesaver if you’re heading uptown. And the A, C, and E – those are local, so you’ll stop at every station. Ugh, sometimes that can take forever!
And don’t even get me started on the N, Q, R, and S trains. I’ve accidentally gotten on the wrong one more times than I can count! They all seem to weave their way through there somehow. I once took the S thinking it was the N. That was a fun, unexpected trip downtown. I’m still not sure exactly where it goes, honestly.
But yeah, the main stations are Times Square – 42nd Street. Some lines also stop at 49th and 50th Street stations nearby, which can be helpful if you’re closer to those. You should definitely check a map before you head down there though, because, trust me, it’s easy to get turned around. Seriously, I’ve seen people just standing there, completely lost. Poor things.
