Ugh, Vietnam taxis – a whole rollercoaster! Grab’s king, no doubt. I used it constantly in Hanoi last July, super convenient. Cost-effective too, usually around 150,000 VND for airport runs. But, peak hour in Ho Chi Minh City? Forget it.
My phone nearly exploded trying to get a Grab. That’s when having a backup app, like Gojek, really shines. Seriously, those apps saved my bacon more than once.
Motorbike taxis? Crazy fast, cheap, but… terrifying. I tried one once in Hoi An (May 2022) and my heart hammered the whole time. The price was right, maybe 50,000 VND, but the thrill wasn’t worth it for me.
Traditional taxis? A gamble. Negotiating’s a must outside of metered rides, haggling is a skill in itself. Always confirm the price BEFORE you even hop in. Remember to bring smaller bills.
