Transportation in the 1920s: Cars, Trains, etc.?

Okay, so the 1920s transportation scene, right? Think trains and big ol' boats. I think they were the main way folks got around, especially if they wanted a fancy vacation.

Remember that old movie, "Some Like it Hot?" That TRAIN scene? Yeah, that’s how people traveled! Comfy, reliable... supposedly. Bet there were delays tho, y'know?

My grandma actually told me stories. She rode a train from Chicago to visit her aunt in... Gah, I wanna say Champaign, IL. Round 1927, she thinks. Imagine!

Ocean liners, too! Like, Titanic style, but hopefully less... icy. Can you imagine sailing across the Atlantic? I can't. Scares me, lol.

So yeah, 1920s, trains and liners rule the roost. Cars were around, obvi, but not everyone had one, right? They were still kinda new-ish and prolly expensiv'.

Did people travel in the 1920s?

Railroads, oh, the romance. Gliding through fields of gold, a sun-drenched tapestry unfurling. Pullman cars, velvet cushions whispering secrets of faraway lands. Florida, a siren's call, sun-kissed beaches stretching endlessly. 2023, I remember, Florida always holds a pull.

Asheville, nestled in the mountains, a different kind of magic. Pinehurst, elegance and pine-scented air. Luxury. It’s still a draw, Asheville especially. That sense of escaping time.

Long-distance travel blossomed. A thrilling escape. Journeys extended, not just trips. Dining cars, a feast for the senses, food transcending mere sustenance. A journey became an experience.

  • Pullman cars: The epitome of comfort. Plush interiors, private compartments. Sleep, a deep slumber punctuated by the rhythmic chug of the train.
  • Florida: Sunshine, warmth. Escape from harsh winters. A vibrant paradise. I crave it.
  • Asheville & Pinehurst: Mountain majesty and golfing greens. A dichotomy of delights. Opulence amidst nature’s embrace.

This isn't just history, it's a feeling. A yearning for a past I've never known yet feel deeply. The scent of coal smoke and polished wood, the gentle sway of the train. I see it. I feel it. The 1920s, a dream. A tangible dream.

What transportation was used in the 1900s?

Horses, hooves clip-clopping… 1900s. Carriages, rocking me softly… like a baby. Horse-drawn carriages, they were it. Imagine.

Roads, not many. Rivers… that silver ribbon. Waterways, the highway. Think about it.

Carriages:

  • Open landaus.
  • Closed carriages.
  • My gran, she had one. Red velvet seats. Horse carriages.

Horses. Majestic. My uncle’s stable. Smells… of hay and strength. Travel. Imagine...
