Da Nang vs Hanoi: Which Vietnamese city is better for travel?

Okay, so Da Nang versus Hanoi, huh? That's a tough one!

Hanoi wins for history buffs, hands down. More museums, historical sites. Think ancient temples, bustling Old Quarter. Da Nang's got beaches, resorts. Relax and unwind kinda vibe.

I kinda liked Hanoi better, honestly. Da Nang was nice. But, like, super beach-focused. Not really my thing.

Hanoi: street food heaven! OMG! Banh mi, pho, all the delicious things. And the markets? Crazy good. So much energy, almost overwhelming tho.

Plus, Da Nang...felt a little too touristy, y'know? Hanois also touristy, sure. But in Hanoi got that authentic Viet Nam feel.

Oh, and did I mention the shopping in Hanoi? Silk, lacquerware... I got this gorgeous scarf for like $10 (around November last year, at a small shop on Hang Gai street, i think). What a deal!

Da Nang is known for having beautiful beaches and resorts. Hanoi's famous for museums, historical places, street food, big city happenings.

Honestly, it depends what you're after. Beach bum? Da Nang. Culture vulture? Hanoi. Me? I’m on team Hanoi!

Is it worth visiting Da Nang?

Da Nang? Oh honey, absolutely. Think less "sleepy fishing village" and more "Instagram model's dream vacation".

Beaches? Forget Bora Bora, Da Nang’s got beaches that’ll make you question your life choices – in a good way, of course. Seriously. Stunning.

Bridges? They're not just bridges, darling. They're architectural masterpieces. Think less "functional" more "seriously, Google them." The Dragon Bridge breathes fire (literally, on weekends!), making it way cooler than any mundane overpass. My friend, Sarah, even proposed there – successful proposal, I might add.

Mountains? Green, lush, and dramatically positioned as a backdrop. It’s like Mother Nature decided to stage a photo shoot, and Da Nang was the perfect location. I saw a monkey once, a cheeky little chap.

The city itself is a chaotic, charming mess. A delightful blend of ancient temples and sleek modern buildings. I nearly lost my favorite sunglasses in the market, but hey, you make memories that way, right? Its food scene alone is worth a visit. The Banh Mi… oh my god, the Banh Mi.

Overall? Pack your bags. You won't regret it. Unless you’re allergic to stunning views and delicious food. Then maybe stay home, I guess. But seriously, go. You won't regret it. I’ve been twice this year, myself.

Is it worth visiting Da Nang?

Da Nang? Worth it. Beautiful? Objectively, yes.

  • Beaches: Pristine. Expect crowds. My trip in 2023 was packed.
  • Bridges: Impressive. The Dragon Bridge especially. Tourist trap, but visually striking.
  • Mountains: Backdrops. Good for hiking, if you're into that. I prefer beaches.
  • Architecture: Modern. Bland, but functional. Nothing groundbreaking.

Visual appeal undeniable. Overrated? Perhaps. Beauty is subjective, after all. It's a city, not a miracle.

Consider your priorities. Relaxation? Da Nang delivers. Cultural immersion? Look elsewhere. My own bias: I prefer quieter locales. But the city works. Efficient. Clean.

Stunning, they say. I saw it. I concur. But don't expect paradise. It’s just… Da Nang.
