Where is the best place to live in Vietnam for foreigners?
Best Places to Live in Vietnam for Expats?
Okay, so best places for expats in Vietnam? Tricky, right? My take? Tay Ho in Hanoi and Binh Thanh in Ho Chi Minh City. Everyone says so, and I kinda get it.
Tay Ho, Hanoi? Think charming lakeside vibes. I spent a month there, July 2022, and the rent? Around $500 for a decent apartment. Lots of cafes, great for chilling.
Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City? That's buzzing. More modern, feels like a constant hum of energy. I've visited friends there, never lived there though. Expensive, I hear, but convenient.
Both are great, really. Depends what you prefer. Chill or hustle? Lakes or skyscrapers? Your call. But yeah, those two are the usual suspects.
How much money do I need to live well in Vietnam?
Living well in Vietnam? Oh honey, that's like asking how long is a piece of string tied to a water buffalo!
- Seriously, it depends. Are you channeling your inner millionaire in a penthouse overlooking Saigon, or are you more of a backpacker embracing the rustic charm of Ha Giang? Enormous difference!
- Let's say you fancy a life that doesn't involve instant noodles every night. Then, $1,000-$2,000 a month could be your sweet spot. You're living pretty darn good there. Think, pho that doesn't taste like socks. Imagine that!
- Location is key. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will laugh at your budget if you're expecting champagne wishes on a beer budget. But, a smaller city? Now we're talking!
- Accommodation. Hostels vs. your own swanky apartment? HUGE. Prepare accordingly. It affects everything.
Honestly? Living in Vietnam is cheaper than my avocado toast habit back in Los Angeles. But don't quote me on that. Haha. Wait, what year is it? 2024? I should probably update my knowledge of Los Angeles brunch prices.
- Luxury is relative. Your definition of "living well" is probably different from my definition. My bar is low, you see.
- Think this: $1000 might be enough, more likely $2000 is better. It just depends on you. Yeah.
Right, now I need another coffee. This is just the beginning.
