Worlds Longest Hiking Trail: Where is it?

Okay, lemme try and explain this. Longest hiking trail, eh?

The Great Trail (Trans Canada Trail) is often called the worlds longest. Over 24,000 kilometers! (Roughly 15,000 miles).

Wow, that’s… a LOT of walking.

It snakes all the way across Canada, right? From the Atlantic to the Pacific and even up to the Arctic. Coast to coast to coast, basically.

I’ve never actually hiked any of it. I did kayak on a small section of it though, near Peterborough on the Otonabee River (Ontario, Canada) back in… hmm, maybe July 2018? Was beautiful, saw some herons. I reckon a good part of the trail is like that – a real mix of things.

It’s not just all muddy trails, I think. Some of it’s road, other parts are waterways, a real mishmash. My kayak trip cost like $40 for the rental a few hours and it was pretty fun. I think I packed a sandwich for lunch, lol.

Seriously, Canada is huge, that trail must take years to finish. Mad respect for anyone who does it. I’d probably need a lifetime supply of bug spray. Mosquitos love me.

What is the longest path in the world?

Cape Town to Magadan. 22,387 km. Walkable.

  • Hours: 4,492. Roughly. No breaks? 185+ days.

    • Think about that. 185 days. Just walking.
    • No, thank you.
  • Consider the shoes. The blisters. I once hiked 10 km. Never again.

  • What’s the point, really? Arrive. So what? Is there point? Is there? A very long walk.

  • Why would anyone DO that? (Is someone out there actually walking?)

Is life a long walk?

Where is the worlds longest walk?

The World’s Longest Walk? It’s a doozy. Cape Town to Magadan. Think of it like hiking from your grandma’s house to the moon, only slightly less arduous. 23,158 kilometers! That’s roughly the distance I’d walk to avoid my ex, times ten.

Seriously, though, three years? I’d need a sherpa, a mule carrying my entire wardrobe (including those ridiculous Crocs I bought on a whim), and a lifetime supply of beef jerky.

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Distance: Enough to circle the Earth more than half a time! My dog would be thrilled.
  • Time: Three years! Longer than my last relationship. Almost as long as my college debt.
  • Terrain: Expect everything: deserts hotter than my aunt Mildred’s temper, mountains higher than my credit score, and swampy bits that’ll probably require a hazmat suit.
  • Supplies: Besides the aforementioned jerky, you’ll need enough sunscreen to coat a small country, mosquito repellent that could fight off a T-Rex, and maybe some anti-boredom medication. I hear those new podcasts are pretty intense.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to pack a solid pair of hiking boots, unless you enjoy blisters the size of dinner plates. And a GPS, obviously. You’ll also need visa paperwork and maybe a few new pairs of socks. Also, enough money for a celebratory beer at the end. Possibly a vacation too.

My Uncle Barry tried something similar once. Didn’t end well, though. He’s still trying to find his left sock. True story.

What is the longest road on Earth?

Pan-American Highway. Alaska to Argentina. Ushuaia whispers at the end. 30,000 km? Merely a suggestion.

  • Length: Over 30,000 kilometers (19,000 miles), give or take.
  • Continents: North, Central, and South America bound together by asphalt.
  • Start: Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Cold winds bite.
  • End: Ushuaia, Argentina. The world shrinks here.
  • Gaps: Darién Gap, impenetrable. A break in the illusion.
  • Dangers: Conditions vary. Be ready.

My uncle drove parts of it. Colombia scared him shitless. Didn’t say much else. Good.

What is the longest non-stop flight?

Okay, so longest flight, huh? JFK to Singapore. 18 hours and 40 minutes! That’s insane. Seriously, who wants to be stuck on a plane that long? My back would be killing me. I need a massage after even a 5 hour flight. Speaking of massages, I should book one next week. Maybe that new place downtown?

15,332km, that’s a lot of kilometers! I wonder what the fuel consumption is on that thing. It’s gotta be a huge amount. Environmental impact, right? That’s a serious issue. We need more sustainable aviation fuels.

Singapore Changi… I’ve heard it’s amazing. World’s best airport, or something? I should look at flights, seriously. A vacation is overdue. Need to check my credit card limit first though… Ugh, finances. Always finances. This reminds me that I need to pay my car insurance too. Before the deadline this month.

  • JFK to Singapore
  • 18 hours 40 minutes flight time
  • 15,332km distance
  • Need to plan a trip!

My friend went last year. Said the airport is awesome. Indoor gardens! Seriously. They have gardens inside the airport. Who does that? It’s so luxurious! I really need to go there. Next year, for sure. Maybe I’ll splurge. Maybe. If I’m good with my savings.

I’m thinking about this flight now, and the thought makes me tired. Crazy long trip. But hey, the destination makes it worth it. Maybe.
