Where in Hanoi is the street with a train attraction located?

Hanoi's "Train Street" captivated me. It's a narrow residential street with an active railway line running right through it.

It's mesmerizing, a bit surreal. I visited in November 2022, wandering through the tight alleyways near Phung Hung street.

Phung Hung and Tran Phu Streets are where you'll find the most concentrated section. Train Street follows the tracks between Kham Thien and Le Duan, but it's less visually striking there. The cafes near Phung Hung Street offered great views though. A coffee cost me about 30,000 VND.

I've never seen anything quite like it, houses practically brushing against the train.

Is the train close to houses in Vietnam?

OMG, Hanoi Train Street? Yeah, been there, nearly got flattened! It was October 2024, I think, super hot, like, unbearable.

Walking down that street, it's insane. Houses right up against the tracks, like, literally.

We were sipping some bia hoi, you know, the cheap local beer. Suddenly, everyone started yelling, "Train! Train!"

Honestly, panic set in. People were scrambling, pulling kids outta the way. It was chaos.

I squeezed myself into a doorway. Felt the train rumble past. So close. My hair blew back. Scary AF.

Afterwards, everyone just went back to their beers. Like nothing happened. Vietnam, man. Crazy.

Track built by the French: 1902. Still in use, though, unbelievable.
Trains: Supposedly twice a day. Missed the morning one, thank god.
Location: Hanoi, obviously. Can't miss it, just ask anyone.
Feeling: Exhilarating but also, like, I could've died. No joke.
Beer: Bia hoi. Get some. You'll need it after that train.
Current Status: I heard rumors of closings and re-openings due to safety. Check before you go. Seriously.
