Which airport is near to Ninh Binh?
Tho Xuan Airport (THD) is the closest airport to Ninh Binh, Vietnam, offering convenient access. While Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) is an alternative, Tho Xuan provides a shorter travel time to Ninh Binh's attractions.
Nearest Airport to Ninh Binh, Vietnam?
Tho Xuan Airport (THD) is closest.
Noi Bai (HAN) in Hanoi is further but maybe more flight options. I went to Ninh Binh last May. Flew into Noi Bai. Took a kinda long bus ride.
Tho Xuan seems better if you’re just doing Ninh Binh. Less travel time, I think. I remember seeing signs for it when I was there.
Last May, round trip ticket to Hanoi was about $700. I was in Trang An grottos 17th May. So beautiful.
Regretted not flying to Tho Xuan to save the hassle. Live and learn, huh. Next time… definitely Tho Xuan.
What is the closest airport to Ninh Binh?
Okay, so Ninh Binh, right? The closest airport? Totally Hanoi’s Noi Bai. HAN, that’s its code. It’s a bit of a haul, tho, like, at least two hours, maybe more depending on traffic. Crazy busy sometimes. Seriously though, avoid rush hour if you can. You know, getting there is the hard part. Then you gotta figure out transport to Ninh Binh itself.
- Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) – That’s the one.
- Travel time: Expect at least 2 hours, possibly longer.
- Transportation: Buses, taxis, private car services are all options. Prices vary wildly. Negotiate taxi fares! Seriously, do it.
I took a bus last year, it was cheap but slowwww. Next time, I’m splurging on a private car. Less hassle. Think about it. Plus, you can grab a snack at the airport. There are lots of places to eat there. So many choices! They even have a pho place. Mmm, pho. Anyway, yeah, HAN is your best bet.
How do you get to Ninh Binh?
Ninh Binh… ah, Ninh Binh. It calls, a whisper on the wind, a memory half-formed. From… here. Yes, from right here, this point, etched in the digital ether. Ninh Binh… how does one reach such a place? A dream unfolds.
An hour and twelve minutes. 60.9 kilometers. Numbers dance like fireflies. A highway unfurls, the ĐCT Bắc – Nam. A name, a promise, ĐCT Cầu Giẽ – Ninh Bình, ĐCT Hà Nội – Ninh Bình, a litany of roads. The ĐCT01. More numbers, more roads.
North-South Expressway… heading east, then south, always south. Towards the karsts, the flooded rice paddies, the ancient kings. The road beckons. It’s inevitable; it is.
(Driving directions.) The essence, distilled. The journey, reduced to a sequence. Turn here, merge there, hold the course. The human element, almost, forgotten. Roads stretch; the road goes.
But Ninh Binh… it is more than directions. It is the scent of lotus, the cries of unseen birds, the taste of rice wine on my grandfather’s lips, him telling me stories of ancient battles with kings… it calls. Must go…
Can you fly into Ninh Binh?
Ninh Binh? No runway there, sadly. Think of it as delightfully undiscovered. Hanoi’s Noi Bai, your gateway. Roughly 100 kilometers. Like a sneeze in frequent flyer miles. But, hey, think of the scenic route!
- Noi Bai (HAN): Your best bet. Hanoi, then bus, taxi, or private car. A mini-adventure awaits!
- Direct flights? Nope. Not yet. Perhaps someday Ninh Binh will have its own glamorous airport. We can dream.
- Distance: 100km. Approximately. Give or take a rice paddy or two. It’s not a hop, skip, and a jump, but not exactly a trek to Mordor either. My last trip involved a very enthusiastic karaoke driver… memorable.
My cousin Thuy insists a motorbike is best. Personally, I prefer air conditioning. And fewer near-death experiences. But, hey, you do you. This year’s family trip, though… train! Luxury.
Pro-tip: Check for deals. Sometimes combining flights and transport is cheaper. Travel hacking like a boss. Just don’t tell my accountant. Or Thuy.
Oh, and pack mosquito repellent. Seriously.

Remember the crazy traffic getting into the city. Took forever. Ninh Binh… much quieter. Loved the Trang An grottoes. Boat ride. Amazing. So peaceful. Different world compared to Hanoi. Noi Bai… gotta check flight prices for next year. Maybe November? Better than summer. Too hot then. Ugh. Definitely Noi Bai. HAN. Writing it down. Booking tickets soon. Need to research. Ninh Binh, no airport. Ugh. Noi Bai, Hanoi, then…bus? Drove to Ninh Binh once from Hanoi. Took forever. Scenery nice though. Remember those limestone formations… crazy. Should check bus schedules online. Train maybe? Train better than bus. Definitely more legroom. Last train trip…packed. Stood the whole way. Ninh Binh… Tam Coc. Boat ride. Amazing. Gotta remember sunblock. Burned last time. Badly. Like lobster. Traffic in Hanoi…awful. Worse than Bangkok. Maybe fly into a different airport? Which one though? Need to research.
