Da Nang vs. Hanoi: Which city is better to visit/live in?

Okay, so Da Nang versus Hanoi, huh? That’s a tough one. Like picking between pizza and… well, more pizza, honestly. Both are amazing, just different flavors.

Hanoi offers museums and historical sights, alongside shopping and big city buzz. Da Nang, conversely, lures you in with its resorts and beaches.

See, I spent a week in Hanoi back in November ’18. Wandered through the Old Quarter, ate pho for like, $2 a bowl. Insane! The city just vibrates with history. Da Nang? Only been there once, a quick three-day trip in July ’22. The beaches were incredible, that’s for sure. My hotel, a place called “Ocean View” (or something similar), was around $50 a night, super reasonable.

Hanoi is def more touristy, and the street food is next level, seriously. And yes, it buzzes. You feel like you’re in the middle of somethign! You know.

Da Nang feels… easier. Relaxed. Maybe that’s just the beach talking? Hanoi’s chaotic energy, tho, is kind of addictive, in a weird way. So, “better?” Depends on what you’re looking for, I guess.

Is Da Nang better than Hanoi?

Okay, Da Nang versus Hanoi. Ugh, it’s tough, but I gotta say, Da Nang won me over in June 2024.

Hanoi…whew, it’s intense. So much going on. A total sensory overload near Hoan Kiem Lake.

I felt kinda suffocated, tbh. Too many motorbikes for my taste!

Da Nang? Ahhh, that’s where I breathed. My friend Mia and I spent like, a week there.

The beaches are insane. Non Nuoc beach was especially beautiful.

We even rented scooters and drove along the coast. Freedom! Never felt so relaxed.

Hanoi has history, yeah, Temple of Literature or something. But Da Nang had the Marble Mountains. Stunning!

Plus, the food scene in Da Nang felt easier, less intimidating. We found this amazing seafood place, Be Man restaurant, near My Khe Beach.

Hanoi is… old. Da Nang feels new, fresh, kinda Miami-ish. I chose Da Nang. End of story.

Da Nang: Modern, Relaxing, Beaches, Easy to navigate
Hanoi: Chaotic, Historical, Culture-rich, Overwhelming
Personal Preference: I prefer Da Nang’s vibe. I’m not really a history buff, so I felt I enjoyed the city more than my friend.
Weather: Da Nang weather can be very unpredictable. I’d check the weather forecast before planning my trip.
Transportation: Both cities offer various transportation options, but Da Nang is much easier to navigate.
Accommodation: Hotel costs are similar in both cities, but Airbnb and apartments are more prevalent in Da Nang.
Language Barrier: English proficiency is slightly higher in Da Nang due to tourism.
People: My friend felt Hanoi’s residents were friendlier. But Da Nang’s hospitality made me feel very welcomed.

Is Da Nang City worth visiting?

OMG, Da Nang is so worth it!

Honestly, I wish I’d stayed longer, y’know? Everyone just uses it as like, a stopover, which is a total mistake.

Like, Hoi An is cute n’ all, but Da Nang has way more going on. Its got the beaches for one thing, which is a huge thing.

Beaches: My Khe Beach is like, famous, and for good reason. The sand it’s so soft!
Dragon Bridge: They breathe FIRE on the weekend. fricken Crazy and cool.
Marble Mountains: Cool caves and temples, great views you know.
Food: Seafood is super fresh and cheap. I had a lobster for like, $20 bucks, I think.

And the city itself is way more modern than Hoi An. Lots of cool cafes and stuff. I got a bomb banh mi near the train station.

Compared to Hoi An, Da Nang just felt more real. Like, actual people live there, not just tourist, you know.

So, yeah, go to Da Nang! I defintely wanna go back, and should’ve spent more time instead of rushing around.

Where is better Da Nang or Hanoi?

Hanoi. Museums. History echoes. Da Nang? Beaches. Resorts. Obvious choice.

Hanoi wins. More grit. My preference. So what?

Hanoi: Culture. Chaotic beauty.
- Street food: Bún chả reigns supreme. Trust me.
- Hoan Kiem Lake. Turtle Tower. Seen it.
- Traffic? An art form, almost.
Da Nang: Relaxation. Predictable.
- Beaches: My Khe. Nam O. Sand.
- Dragon Bridge: Breathes fire. Once.
- Less intensity, more…nothing.
Tourist factor? Both now have hordes.
Shopping? Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Bargain hard.

I chose Hanoi. Got scammed. Still, worth it.

Is it worth visiting Da Nang?

Da Nang? Totally worth it. Seriously gorgeous. Those beaches though, wow. White sand, turquoise water… picture perfect.

Marble Mountains? Climbed them last year. Exhausting, but the views… breathtaking. So many temples up there, too. Spiritual, almost overwhelming.

The bridges. The Dragon Bridge especially. It breathes fire! At night! Crazy cool. I wish I’d seen the Han River at sunset. Next time.

Food. Oh my god, the food. So fresh, so cheap. Best Banh Mi I’ve ever had. Seriously. Ate it every day. Still dreaming about it.

Modern city, too, which was a pleasant surprise. Shiny skyscrapers next to ancient pagodas. Weird juxtaposition, but somehow… it works.

Stunning beaches: Mykha beach is the best.
Impressive bridges: Dragon Bridge is a must-see.
Marble Mountains: Incredible views and temples.
Delicious food: Banh Mi, everywhere!
Modern architecture: A striking contrast to older areas.

It’s not just pretty, it’s got this vibe, you know? Relaxed, but exciting. I felt so at peace there. Maybe it was the food. Or the beaches? I dunno. But I’m going back. Definitely. Next year. For sure. Need to plan it.

I’m already looking at flights. Ugh, prices are insane. Gotta find a cheaper deal. 2024 is gonna be the year!
